Way to go Pioneers!!!!!
Transylvania women’s basketball (@TUWBX) defats Christopher Newport, 57-52, to win the 2023 NCAA Division III Tournament. First national championship for the Pioneers, who complete a perfect 33-0 season. Transy led by 13 in the second half, lost the lead and won anyway.

Halloween: adding to the blurry line between technical and biological replicates :) as we just reviewed in my BIOE 511 Research Methods class. A slightly larger sample size may be required to figure this out. Credit: inspired by ⁦@KubenaKay⁩ and her candy statistics!

To celebrate Mole Day (10/23) at ⁦@DebakeyHSHP⁩, my daughter and I made a stuffed animal mole honoring a famous person. Who to pick? Einstein? Curie? Nah! I present our mole version of ⁦@CarolynBertozzi⁩. Congrats Carolyn from a fellow glycan scientist. You rock!

Congratulations to my colleague @ProfDanPreston for this new project! Fascinating approach to bioinspired robotics.
Our #necrobotics paper is out today in open-access @AdvSciNews Advanced Science! We repurposed biotic material (in this case, a deceased spider) as a #robotic gripper. #materials #engineering onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

I am extremely honored to have received an award in honor of my professional service and leadership at Rice and in my field of biomedical engineering. And then I noticed this. Unfortunate typo? Yes. Unintentionally apropos? YES 🫤 it definitely feels like that sometimes.

@ATTHelp, I have spent more than a month trying to get re-approved for an upgrade for my iPhone. BestBuy cancelled my phone order. But before I can order another one I need ATT to restore my upgrade eligibility. Why can you fix this?

Difficult news day & week. Kept myself busy planning today’s lecture on Diversity and Inclusion for my Biomechanics class. I am incensed by the proposal by the Texas Lt Gov to eliminate tenure for public university faculty who teach about systemic racism. 1/

I wrapped up with how sex and racial diversity is hindered in the practice of literature citations (doi.org/10.1101/2020.10.12.3… and doi.org/10.1038/s41593-020-0…), which harms the career path of faculty who are underrepresented in STEM. 4/

To my colleagues, don’t bow down to Dan Patrick’s threats. I chose instead to double down, share the data, and let my students know that diversity, equity, and inclusion matter to me. #BLM
