sharing a new perspective in npj Flex Elec: Natural neural codes are high-D, but stimulation remains low-res. We advocate for high-dimensional stimulation—empowered by flexible microelectrode arrays—to more faithfully approximate population codes. 🔗 rdcu.be/eEyFJ

Xing Chen et al report the long-term damage by 16 Utah arrays in the visual cortex of monkeys, glued together as one plate. We observe substantial cortical damage. Other electrode types will be needed (e.g. highly flexible ones) for a visual prosthesis. iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

a true legend!
Lithium-ion Battery Inventor. Nobel Prize Recipient. Beloved Longhorn. We are saddened to share the passing of John Goodenough at the age of 100. Goodenough served as a faculty member @UTAustin for nearly four decades and was an inspiration for all engineers.

Many of the scientists I admire have awesome review papers on Annual Review Biomedical Engineering and I learnt a lot from these papers. Glad to have contributed our perspectives on large-scale, long-lasting recordings and hope it can help others as I was helped.
A recent review by @LuanLab and @xiechong labs describe recent technological advances that have enabled larger-scale, more detailed, and longer-lasting recordings of neural circuits with some considerations for future technological development. loom.ly/ijCaXaQ

4 years of hard work: NETs not only record but stimulate robustly. best part? 1) only need 1-2 uA for focal neuronal activation and behavioral detection; 2) stable for 240 days (and 400 days as we just measured!) 3) ready for dissmination by @neuralthread doi.org/10.1016/j.celrep.202…
