My final story for The Washington Post is about the first third country deportation flight from the U.S. to Ghana. I spoke to two people who were on that Sept. 5-6 flight, including a woman from Togo who fled the country in 2024 to escape FGM. wapo.st/4dvSWHn

Since my special projects team was eliminated at The Washington Post, I'm looking to take on more reporting assignments. I mostly write about the US prison system & the many ways it impacts our lives. (I also write about books & culture on occasion.) ⬇️Here is some of my work:

I’d love to answer this question!
Replying to @katemshepherd
What are you known for? What truth did you hold to any power? What is your crowning achievement at the WaPo? For that matter what truth did anyone in the Metro section hold to any power?

Like so many of my talented colleagues, I was laid off from The Washington Post this week. I grew up at The Post — eight years among inspiring writers, cartographers, animators, video and photo journalists, and editors.

Hire Niha, a wonderful and compassionate reporter, before someone else does.
Journalism is a privilege and it’s been an honor to write for The Washington Post for the past six years. With my team gone, my time at The Post is ending. Grateful for the space to report stories no longer possible in India. Hugely proud of the work and the people.

After nearly 12 years working with the Washington Post, I was among the many foreign correspondents laid off today. Covering Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the legacy of the United States’ longest war was an honor. There were so many more stories to tell.

A short note to confirm The Washington Post closed its Seoul hub today. Have loved every moment of working with the team here and at the mothership. The cuts have been deep across the board and I will miss the many talented people I have learned from — you are all magnificent.

I’ve had a hard time finding the words to share this, but I was laid off yesterday by The Washington Post. I loved my time there, especially the last year, which I spent working for dream editor @byTheresaVargas on a new team dedicated to narrative and accountability stories

I’m among today’s Washington Post layoffs. It was an absolute dream to cover everything — from immigration, to Venezuela to politics to national breaking news — over the past 5 years. If you’re hiring or know of someone who is: mpaulrangel(at)gmail(dot)com

I was laid off today as part of The Post's job cuts. I don't know what the future holds, but it was the honor of a lifetime to cover D.C.'s local communities over the past 6 years. If you're hiring or want to reach out, DM me or email: mbricesaddler(@)gmail(dot)com

I was also laid off from @washingtonpost in today's cuts. I am incredibly proud of the work my colleagues and I did, including our unflinching coverage of the Gaza war -- which still hasn't ended for Palestinians there. Please, readers, support the journalism this world needs.

After 4 years as weekend editor for national & politics, I was laid off from the @washingtonpost. Every weekend was nonstop with assassination attempts, court actions, global military strikes -- all harder to cover with 300 fewer talented journalists. Next steps TK/DMs open.

I'm heartbroken to announce that I've been laid off from my position at The Washington Post. Working at this newspaper, and especially being a foreign correspondent covering Iran and Turkey over the last few short months, was a dream come true for me.

I was among those laid off today at The Washington Post, along with most others on the national breaking news team. I felt lucky to write so many different kinds of stories during my year here, and even luckier to be part of a team of such brilliant, talented and kind colleagues. From the moment I stepped into this newsroom as an intern on Metro, I knew The Post was a special place. So many of the people who made it special were also cut today. I'm so grateful to have learned from them and to have worked with them. On to the next adventure!
