My final story for The Washington Post is about the first third country deportation flight from the U.S. to Ghana. I spoke to two people who were on that Sept. 5-6 flight, including a woman from Togo who fled the country in 2024 to escape FGM. wapo.st/4dvSWHn

After nearly 12 years working with the Washington Post, I was among the many foreign correspondents laid off today. Covering Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the legacy of the United States’ longest war was an honor. There were so many more stories to tell.

A short note to confirm The Washington Post closed its Seoul hub today. Have loved every moment of working with the team here and at the mothership. The cuts have been deep across the board and I will miss the many talented people I have learned from — you are all magnificent.

I'm heartbroken to announce that I've been laid off from my position at The Washington Post. Working at this newspaper, and especially being a foreign correspondent covering Iran and Turkey over the last few short months, was a dream come true for me.
