Duke Ellington slept here. So did Sammy Davis Jr., Sarah Vaughan, and Count Basie. For 30 years, this corner of 15th and U was the address in Black Washington. Then in 1974, the wrecking ball came. ghostsofdc.org/2013/12/05/du…

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with support during these past few days. Your kindness has meant so much to my family and me.  This week, we’re honoring my father’s 72nd birthday by keeping his legacy going through his passion for journalism. In his memory, our family has started the Larry Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund with the National Association of Black Journalists to support the next generation of journalists.   fundraise.givesmart.com/form… 📸: @Twins

The Kennedy Center’s name sign is still blocked by tarps and surrounded by security guards more than 12 hours after President Donald Trump’s name was removed from the building. Just a handful of journalists and passersby waiting for the tarps to come down.

There are fake bushes setup outside in front of the West Wing today. It’s unclear whether they’re for tomorrow’s UFC match or another purpose.

6.12.26 Severe thunderstorm warning is now in place for Prince William and Fauquier counties until 4:45 p.m. If you are heading out on I-66, take it slow. Heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning are seen with this storm. @DCNewsNow

So proud of the Washington Association of Black Journalists continued work to advance and support local student journalism.
- @WABJDC ‘s partnership with Eastern High School has ended for the school year. The photos below are from the last edition of the newspaper, which is 16 pages as more students expressed interest (the first edition had 8 pages!) Turrell and Jeff (in the photo holding press passes) wrote the story about gun violence. Students who weren’t involved said that. next year they want to contribute articles. A grandmother reached out to tell us her grandson (who has struggled a lot in school) wants to be a journalist now. All senior journalists received a certificate at a senior award ceremony last week and a blue and white cord that they wore at graduation yesterday.

I need to shoutout my young students at Eastern High School, who have been working hard with @WABJDC this month to revive the school newspaper! I am extremely proud of them!!!!

Thanks friend Corey Williams for the @AP obit on my friend Marlene Johnson. It's poetic that AP publish the obit on the Black journalist who sued them for discrimination that led to them to hire more woman, Black and Hispanic journalists. bit.ly/3Qak4TB @NABJ

THIS SO AMAZING!!!! And I would love to see other local NABJ chapters work with the Black Press like this.
Thanks to a partnership with @WashInformer, several of our @WABJDC UJW high school students are seeing their bylines in a newspaper for the very first time. Read Jackson-Reed HS student Lilia Choice's reporting on Black faith leaders in the D.C. area: washingtoninformer.com/black…
