When the 1994 Genocide against the
#Tutsi commenced on April 7th, the international community largely abandoned
#Rwanda, effectively granting a green light to Habyarimana’s army and the Interahamwe militia to execute their campaign without hindrance. This tragic abandonment was underscored by the United Nations, which drastically reduced the UNAMIR contingent from 5,000 personnel to a mere 250.
At just 36 years of age, Major General Paul
#Kagame made a pivotal and courageous decision. He ordered the RPA forces stationed at the CND (the current Parliament building) to launch a decisive offensive to halt the massacres. Over the course of three months, consecutive rescue operations were executed, culminating in the complete defeat of the genocidal forces. Today, his visionary statesmanship has elevated Rwanda to heights once deemed unimaginable by the world.
May this profound legacy serve as an enduring inspiration for every young Rwandan in their thirties today.
