In our #SolaceSummit workshop Jamie Qunan (@JOunan), Rebecca Riley (@RileyResearch) and Paul Manners are discussing with the room what the burning issues for local government are and how the hub can collaborate and nurture the relationships within your own local authorities.
Right. Have been reading the changes to the NPPF, and it is genuinely game-changing on the green belt, in a way that is ambitious, necessary and potentially v v controversial - but also has very little to do with the 'grey belt'. Quick thread on what's changed. (1/?)
Why does Paris look the way it does?
Well, until the year 1853 it was a diseased and overcrowded Medieval city — then the biggest urban renovation in history was announced.
This is the story of how Paris was transformed into the world's most popular city...
Mid 1800s timing of Napoleon III’s Paris redesign runs in parallel to the Cerdà’s Eixample project that created the Barcelona we know and love. That plan was approved in 1860 and also delivered over several decades.

‘Place’, however you define it, is where you can join up policies, investments and actions. (Except Whitehall, which is a place… but not in this context!!!🤔)
Today I’ve written to local leaders in devolution deserts to kickstart change.
Let’s work together to boost growth and opportunity in every part of the country.

Then I think a good devo-driven strategy includes a hard look at:
1. Vision
2. Leadership & Governance
3. Capacity
4. Jobs to be done
5. New ways of working.
(All forged in the culture of a place, shaped by open learning from elsewhere)
Those with skin in the game know what's best for their communities.
Today I welcomed metro mayors into Downing Street.
It is time to reset relationships and deliver growth across the whole country so that everyone is better off.
