Today, we pause to remember the courage and sacrifice of the Allied forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy 82 years ago. On D-Day, thousands of individuals willingly stepped into uncertainty and danger in defense of freedom.  Their bravery helped change the course of history and secure the liberties that generations have since enjoyed. On this anniversary, we remember those who gave their lives and express our deepest gratitude to all who have worn the uniform in defense of our nation and the cause of liberty around the world.

In response to the demand letter I sent to @kevinolearytv, he agreed to all conditions. Protecting Utah’s water, especially the future of the Great Salt Lake, remains one of my highest priorities. As a result of the letter, the project now includes a commitment of water that did not previously exist for the Great Salt Lake — while also reducing the overall effective size of the proposed project area by 75%. It is important to highlight that this process is still in its earliest stages. There must be written commitments in place, and the proposal must undergo a full permitting and environmental review process, just like any other development project in Utah. The response to the demand letter I sent demonstrates that public engagement matters and that Utahns' concerns are being heard. Utah can once again become an example for America, proving that when people come together, they can build the right way and leave something better for the next generation.

It was an honor to join Union Pacific, Northrop Grumman and NASA in Corinne, Utah, as the rocket motors for the Artemis III mission began their journey to Cape Canaveral, Florida. More than 150 years after Utah helped unite the nation through the railroad, our state is helping power the next era of American innovation, exploration and discovery. Thanks to Utah's skilled workforce and culture of innovation, we're continuing to play a vital role in shaping America's future, from connecting a continent to helping return Americans to the Moon.

I’ve sent a letter directly to @kevinolearytv calling for a 75% reduction in the proposed data center project area, from 40,000 acres to approximately 10,000 acres. I am also requiring that any excess water be treated and dedicated to the Great Salt Lake, even though none of the water currently used in that area flows to the lake. In addition, I am demanding greater transparency, stronger conservation commitments and enhanced protections for Utah’s natural resources as this project moves through the review process.

Today, we remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Because of their courage and selflessness, future generations have had the opportunity to live in freedom and pursue lives of purpose and prosperity. Here in Utah, we are especially mindful of the service and sacrifice of the service members connected to Hill Air Force Base and the military families across our state who continue a proud tradition of defending our country. We honor the fallen with deep gratitude and renew our commitment to preserving the principles and freedoms they fought to defend.

Critical minerals are the foundation of every major strategic objective America has. The countries that lead the next century will not just be the ones that innovate. They will be the ones that have the resources to build — to build energy, to build infrastructure, to build supply chains and secure the minerals required to make it all possible. Chief Justice Durrant has served the people of Utah with discipline, professionalism and a longstanding commitment to the judiciary. Throughout his years in public service, he has played an important role in the judicial branch, and the impact of his leadership will continue to be felt for years to come. We are grateful for Chief Justice Durrant's many years of dedicated service to our great state. We wish him and his family all the best in the years ahead.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Robert Woodson, a courageous leader whose work challenged people to rise above division and focus on the values that make our nation unique and special. Robert spent meaningful time in Utah meeting with lawmakers, universities, faith leaders and communities. He brought people together for honest conversations during a time when our country too often chooses conflict over understanding. Our state is better because of the time, wisdom and leadership he shared with us. We extend our condolences to his family, loved ones and all who were influenced by his remarkable life and legacy. He will be greatly missed.

I enjoyed spending time in my daughter’s classroom and seeing firsthand the incredible work our teachers do every day. Education is about more than just academics, it’s about helping students build confidence, curiosity and the skills they need to succeed in life. Utah’s students are fortunate to have dedicated educators who care deeply about their success and work tirelessly to prepare the next generation for the future. That’s why we’ve continued making education a priority. Over the past five years, we’ve increased state funding for public education by $1.8 billion, a 44.2% increase. I’m grateful for the bright students I met and thankful for the teachers, staff, and parents who support them every day.

I appreciated the opportunity to join the @UtahTaxpayers Association Taxes Now Conference to discuss responsible tax policy and Utah’s economic future.   For six years in a row, we have cut taxes to help make life more affordable for Utahns, including lowering the income tax rate, eliminating the Social Security tax for many seniors and providing gas tax relief. At the same time, our state remains one of the nation’s strongest and nearly debt-free states, proving that fiscal discipline and economic growth can go hand in hand.   Utah has shown you can keep taxes competitive while still investing responsibly in infrastructure, education and transportation to prepare for the next generation.

Today, we remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others. These men and women chose a profession marked by courage and a commitment to protect the people they serve. We honor their sacrifice, pray for their families and thank the officers who continue to uphold the badge with integrity. Utah remains grateful to those who dedicate their lives to protecting our communities and preserving the freedoms we often take for granted.

Mothers are the steady foundation behind the next generation. Their influence is seen in the strength of our families and the character of our communities. This Mother’s Day, I’m especially grateful for my wife, Susan, and for the countless women whose love, sacrifice and example continue to strengthen Utah.

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Utah is honored to contribute to America’s Time Capsule, which will be sealed in Philadelphia this July and opened 250 years from now. I’m honored to include one of my challenge coins that bears the phrase “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave,” as a reminder of the sacrifice, courage and determination that brought us here, and that continues to guide our future.
