Really proud of our new(ish) paper in the special issue on Women in Hydrology in JoH! We developed a framework for balancing water management decisions to support ecological goals in urban rivers @terri_hogue @KrisTaniguchi @re_abdi @Hydro_E_Gallo others doi.org/10.1016/j.hydroa.202…

Hydropower can be increased within strict environmental constraints. Global hydropower potential is 5.27 PWh yr−1, mostly in the Himalayas. Africa’s potential is 0.60 PWh yr−1, four times larger than its developed hydropower. nature.com/articles/s44221-0…

More and more evidence is emerging that #nitrogen pollution to waterways can be can be largely eliminated within ~5 to 20 years if we decrease surplus N left on farm fields and city lawns now. Great #AGUpub by Nguyen, @fanny_sarrazin, @rkumar_1982 , et al. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.…

SOAKER TODAY & TUESDAY: Subtropical moisture will stream into the PNW over the next 2 days, resulting in impressive rain totals high elevation snow (along & west of Cascades). Many will see 1.5-3” of rain, with 4-6” along parts of coast, Coast Range & Cascades. #PDX #ORwx #WAwx

No joke had a student do this 100 times on a final project. They were super proud of their code (I mean, it worked, which is sometimes all you need!)
Sure I could write a ‘loop’ or a ‘function’ but what if I just copy and paste and replace all 20 times, instead. Who’s gonna stop me?

If you’re at #AGU22, check out @hydro_kyleb sharing our cool (pun intended) educational lab/demo on urban heat tomorrow! #STEMeducation
Replying to @hydro_kyleb
Tomorrow I'll be sharing about work @pigyachty, @JWolfand & I have done on developing an quantitative ET lab and informal urban heat demo (w/ @OMSI Sci Comm Fellows Program). 10:15 in N246c.

Great photos and read on the LA river, which having studied it for the last 5 years is near and dear to my hydrologic heart
At 51 miles long, it’s one of America’s largest infrastructure projects. Angelenos live along it, but know little of its origins — nor its role in protecting them from devastating floods. Is it time for the Los Angeles River to serve the city in a new way? nyti.ms/3O53LSC

Yes and yes. The struggle is real :/
U.S. colleges are welcoming students who missed a lot of high school instruction in the pandemic. Many students are behind, especially in math, and getting a degree could be harder. nyti.ms/3STcojK

A preliminary magnitude 4.2 #earthquake just rattled northwest Oregon. It occurred about 9 miles east southeast of Lacomb, Oregon. Did you feel it? I sure did in Portland.

First flush storm today, and I couldn’t be more excited! Circle back to me in late May when it’s still raining #pdxwx
Be VERY careful Wednesday morning during the first few hours of rain. A summer's worth of oils, dirt, & grease will combine with rain to make for slippery spots. It happens every time we have a long dry spell and then rain returns

615 am | The Portland Airport recorded 0.02" of rain ending it's streak of days without measurable rain at 67...just 4 days shy of the longest streak on record set in 1967. Other recent long dry streaks include 57 days in 2017 & 51 in 2012 & 2021. #pdxtst #orwx #wawx
