I still won’t be surprised at all if Jake Andrews starts in week 1 for the Texans. Probably one of the most important positions to have experience especially with Houston clearly prioritizing being better pre-snap. Rutledge having struggles snapping the ball is expected with the process but you shouldn’t force him to center in week 1 if he isn’t ready when Andrews has proved to be capable.

New Texans QB Coach Jerry Schuplinski on QB C.J. Stroud’s offseason & OTAs/Mini-Camp via @AaronWilson_NFL: “Doing a really good job of everything we asked him to do. Coming with a great attitude, he looks good, he looks lean. Really worked hard on his body. He’s been putting in the extra time, you can tell on his own. The operation looks really good. The huddle command, getting the play calls out, getting to make sure we’re operating the line of scrimmage correctly. Shifts, motions, all that kind of stuff. And then he’s been taking all the stuff pre-snap to the field and then doing a good job post-snap, too. Seeing coverages, getting the ball out on time and playing pretty well.”

C.J. Stroud's 2025 regular season broken up by targeting the hashes and outside the hashes via @FantasyPtsData: This has been a theme over each of Stroud's 3 season with him being much better targeting the MOF compared to sidelines. Stroud's struggles mainly came against 2 high looks where he had the worst off target % when targeting outside the hashes which has been amplified with a poor Texans run game.

Here’s my Texans 53 man roster prediction post OTAs/Mini-Camp: - I think Evan Brown & M.J. Stewart are similar to Harrison Bryant or Jakob Johnson from last year where they can bring him back on PS without using a roster spot. - Cade Stover vs Brevin Jordan will be one to watch. - LB is also a tough one with the depth there like Hansen getting cut. - Huzzie is backup in the nickel for Jalen Pitre.

Texans OG Ed Ingram told @TexansVoice & @jharrisfootball about a play from Keylan Rutledge where he knocked somebody down then tried to get on them. Rutledge snapping the ball will be one of the most important things to watch come camp & likely decide who plays C.

CJ Stroud EPA/DB targeting different alignments in 2025 via @NextGenStats: Wide: 0.12 (21st) Tight: 0.20 (18th) Slot: 0.35 (8th) Backfield: 0.08 (8th) Much different from 2024 where Stroud was 12th in EPA/DB targeting wide targets & not top 20 in any other category. Year 2 Higgins with the return of Tank Dell & better protection should help that improve in 2026.

The Texans offense led all teams in quick first-read completions last year via PFF, they were 26 completions ahead of 2nd place in the LA Rams. Houston’s offensive staff did a nice job creating surroundings for Stroud & co. that gave easy answers & help stay ahead of the chains which led to a much more efficient Stroud & pass game from 2024.

Texans OL coach Cole Popovich spoke very positively about OT Trent Brown & his impact on the room (Question from @Cody_Stoots & video from @AaronWilson_NFL): “He understands our system really well, understands the techniques and what we are trying to do so it’s great having him there, he pulls guys aside all the time and just hey this is really what he’s looking for.”

The OL that I believe as of now takes the field in week 1 for the Texans: LT - Aireontae Ersery LG - Wyatt Teller C - Keylan Rutledge RG - Ed Ingram RT - Trent Brown Rutledge is learning on the job and has to figure out the snapping stuff but I believe that comes with the experience he is getting now.
Texans most relevant position battles that still are up in the air post OTA: - C1 (Andrews, Rutledge, Brown) - RT1 (Brown, Smith) - WR/LB depth - DE3 - P Will be watching these closely come training camp.

QB Coach Jerry Schuplinski on how this offensive system is the right fit for CJ Stroud: “I think the biggest thing we’ve tried to do is how can we protect him, that’s not just with the guys up front and their blocking it’s also us getting the ball out of our hands but more importantly us defining our rules on how we’re going to handle things and I do think it showed last year.”
Asked new Texans QB coach Jerry Schuplinski aka John Carrol Jerry about his new role and why this offensive system is the right one.

In 2025, CJ Stroud had the lowest TTT, P2S, QBP% & Sacks of his career. They did things outside of the 5 lineman to help him not get hit as much as year 2 and saw improvements in protection.
