List managers are footy's silent architects. Not many supporters know their names. But every side bears their influence. I had the pleasure of speaking with "Alex", an AFL list manager, about the decisions he makes and the trade-offs he encounters. onepercenters.net.au/p/beyon…

This Choiceology podcast comes from Wharton and gets at behavioral economics. In this case, they asked me to highlight some of the tension between algorithms and human choice in basketball front offices/coaching. (I haven't listened to it yet.) schwab.com/learn/story/algor…

Why batting has been so hard this Ashes series. Batsmen’s agency in their fate is limited. Batsmen must commit to their shot 0.15 seconds before the ball reaches them. So when the ball moves off the seam, it is too late to adjust to late movement. telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2025…

Over a decade ago, @FiveThirtyEight published a clever methodology for estimating someone's age based on their first name. I turned it into an interactive tool, the Name Age Calculator. Type in "Jennifer" and discover when that name peaked in 140 years of Social Security data (spoiler: 1970s babies). It went semi-viral and got picked up by major outlets. I've kept it running all these years because people genuinely enjoy it. It's one of those simple projects that reminds me why I love building things: when data tells an interesting story, people want to engage with it. Try it out: name-age-calculator.randalol… Drop a comment with the most surprising name age you discover. I'm curious what you'll find. #DataScience #dataviz #DataAnalysis
