Google Ads is such a powerful tool if you use it correctly
If itâs not delivering for you, you're probably making some key mistakes
Letâs break them down:
Segmentation, Segmentation, Segmentation:
You canât treat all your products the same. Segment your campaigns.
I've made a separate post on the most effective ways I've seen work
But you have to segment your campaigns, whether that's a PMAX, Shopping or a Search
đ Separate high-margin vs. low-margin products.
đ Create ad groups by product category.
đ Segment keywords to target specific search intent.
One-size-fits-all campaigns just don't cut it.
Neglecting Your Ad Account:
You donât need to touch your account every day, but you do need a plan.
Make sure you're checking in regularly and analyzing performance.
Having a plan makes the process easier
Nailing Down Targeting:
So many brands skip the basics and lose out on easy wins
đ Are you checking your search terms?
đ Adding negative keywords to filter out irrelevant traffic?
đ Targeting the right locations, audiences, and devices?
This stuff may be basic but it's extremely essential.
If youâre not locking in your targeting, youâre literally just wasting budget
Limiting Your Smart Bidding Campaigns Too Early:
You can't just set a tROAS for 1100% and expect to hit that ROAS with no data
With Smart Bidding you have to have solid data, or youâre just setting yourself up for failure.
Get data in your account first before you just pick a random number to limit your campaign to
đ Build a foundation, then let Smart Bidding refine it.
Conversion Data Isnât Accurate:
If your conversion tracking is broken or inaccurate, youâre driving blind
You Google Ads Account doesn't discriminate with data, the data it sees is the data they think you're getting
đ Test your setup regularly.
Without accurate conversion data, you will not optimize effectively.
Jumping into PMAX Too Soon:
Performance Max campaigns can be powerful, but they require a LOT of time and data to succeed.
đ If you launch PMAX too early, you risk losing control and burning through budget with little return.
đ Build up a solid history of data within your account before diving into PMAX
Not Taking Notes:
Are you tracking what youâve tested?
Or just testing what random things you think are going to work for you
đ If youâre not taking notes on what changes you made, what worked, and what didnât, youâll never know what to refine.
Document everything so you can repeat what works and improve on what doesnât
I guarantee if you fix all of these things or take these into accounts when setting up your account you will be in such a better position to succeed
