2/2 My mother always said she knew where I was when the house was quiet. I was in an armchair, reading. Children devour knowledge but, despite what many would have you believe, by reading more, they develop critical skills. Reading doesn’t brainwash you. It liberates you.

For me, libraries are sacred spaces. I borrowed weekly in Dún Laoghaire. I’d say school was about 40% of my education. The rest was split between a set of encyclopaedias my folks paid off on tick (I still have them 😌) and books about art, architecture, movies, and so on. 1/2
