Perhaps if one Carl had coaching from the other, we could have avoided that little gopher incident. More on the Carls and the intersection between intuition and skillfulness in my new diary entry on From the Rough to the Core (link in comments). #greenhorngreenkeeper
After attending to the details at this level (on hands and knees), I will forever see golf courses from a new perspective. #greenhorngreenkeeper#geekedongolf
Piles of dirt at Fort Washington got me think about @MattGinella who got me thinking of an Ancient Roman concept. I promise to bring that all together in the latest diary entry on From the Rough to the Core (link in comments). #greenhorngreenkeeper#geekedongolf
I was delighted to find out that Fort Washington has history with the greatest movie of all time. More on that and life-changing looping in the Central Valley in a new dispatch on From the Rough to the Core (link in comments). #caddieforlife#geekedongolf
Working on a project, came across this photo of my son Jack & me headed up the dewy 1st fairway at @KingsleyClub. A dear friend captured the moment and blessed me with his gift before he tragically passed away. So much there. Life is fleeting and best treasured while it lasts.
Thank you for taking a walk with me down memory’s fairways. My hope for all the parents of golf is that we take in the fullness of those priceless moments, filing them away in our hearts and minds—a gift from this most wonderful game. #geekedongolf#goodofthegame
During my time away, the boys and I talked about future adventures. We have a solid hit list. But perhaps what I look forward to most are more evenings of just screwing around with a wedge or putter. Not chasing, just being, together. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
Jack and I snuck in a quick but memorable trip right under the Covid lockdown wire. For a father and son on a budget, the Mid Pines Southern Pines Pine Needles combo is tough to beat. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
Going all the way back to my caddie days, I have loved late-afternoon Monday golf. My good fortune to know generous Supers who allow me to indulge in adulthood, and rope in my sons, is cause for profound gratitude. #patentsofgolf#geekedongolf
We have had the privilege of catching a few sunsets at @Arcadia_Bluffs. A perfect setting for teaching my sons the importance of pausing thoughts and shots to take in the natural beauty that the game brings us into contact with. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
Tom Coyne (@coynewriter), editor of @GolfersJournal, has played some of the most exclusive golf courses in the world. But when he visited a nine-hole course in New York's Catskills that had seen better days and was up for sale, he took on a new challenge: running the course for a year to see if he could turn it around.
Coyne talks with Lee Cowan about his efforts to preserve a rural community's beloved course, and about his new book, "A Course Called Home: Adventures of an Accidental Golf Course Owner." cbsn.ws/4eWmMpw
Henry inherited his dad’s stubborn determination. On this evening that meant foregoing a trolley even though he was cautioned that we had to hustle to be on time for dinner. It took some urging, but the trooper made it. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
When the boys fell in love with golf, I started counting down the days until I could take them to @LawsoniaGolf. I wanted to witness that same WOW experience that I had when I was exposed to Wild Bill & Ted’s blend of elegance and enormous scale. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
One of many things I love about Jack is that’s he a gamer who’s always up for adventure. Drive to a neighboring state before dawn, walk 36 at Purdue’s Kampen and Ackerman-Allen, drive home delirious. That’s how we do. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
Me to the boys: Hey fellas, wanna go to Canal Shores? I have a meeting with Luke Donald.
Boys: Yes!
(We get there, they disappear to chip and putt. Luke graciously takes a photo before we leave.)
…
I am eternally grateful to my golf pals for the many ways they’ve nurtured Henry’s love of the game. If you want to be a championship caliber player (and he does), it helps to get reps on championship courses. #parentsofgolf#geekedongolf
Jack and I had a pilgrimage to @SweetensCove planned, his first golf trip and our first together. Cue biblical rain and we had to audible to Aiken. This was before the area became the hotbed it is now, but Palmetto stood up just fine on its own.
