We are saddened to share yet another loss in the Mississippi House of Representatives with the passing of State Representative Bo Brown. Bo served in the House for seven years and represented his constituents of Hinds County well. A valuable member on House Corrections, Judiciary B, Medicaid, Tourism, and Transportation Committees, Bo conducted himself with professionalism, respect, and kindness. Please keep his wife, Imelda, and children, Michelle, Kidada, and Dawn, in your prayers. We will miss another friend in the House. May he rest in peace.

You are correct, except it was solely the Lt. Governor and the Mississippi State Senate that chose to stay out of online sports betting. They did so by killing well put together bills that passed the House. It passed multiple times in the Mississippi House over the last few years with safeguards as well as protections for our “ brick and mortar” gaming establishments, only to find a quiet death in the Senate.
"So, Mississippi chose to stay out of online sports betting, missing out on tens of millions in tax revenue for our state. Now, DraftKings has rolled out a "super app" that places prediction markets side by side with their standard betting app. Good thing we didn't need any of the money for K-12 education, roads and bridges, higher ed, or anything else. As Sen. David Blount told me earlier this year on @MorningsCross, "with prediction markets like Kalshi growing, it's not that much tax revenue anymore." Glad we protected those "brick and mortar" gaming properties. Hope it was worth it." - Richard Cross on the failure to pass online sports betting legislation in Mississippi.

It is with heavy hearts that we pause to reflect on the passing of our friend and colleague in the Mississippi House of Representatives, State Representative Price Wallace. Price served in the House for nine years and cared deeply about his constituents in Rankin and Simpson County. As Chairman of the House Constitution Committee, he led on landmark legislation such as restoring the Ballot Initiative that the House passed numerous times. He believed in restoring the constitutional right for Mississippians to have a fair and accessible means of influencing state policy. A poultry farmer and constant advocate for Mississippi agriculture – Price was a proud Republican and an asset to our state. He was always so proud of his kids and certainly enjoyed the title of granddaddy. We will miss our friend in the House. Please join me in keeping his wife, Cindy, and his family in your prayers. A good man, may he rest in peace.

This week, the House Select Committee on Property Tax convened to hear from the Department of Revenue and receive an overview of Mississippi's Property Tax system. This Select committee, Co-Chaired by Representative @tlamar44 and Representative @RepShaneBarnett, will examine all aspects of the Mississippi Property Tax system and work to find ways to reduce the tax burden on Mississippians. The Mississippi House of Representatives led the charge to eliminate the personal income tax in Mississippi, and we will lead the charge to reduce real property taxes and reduce car tag fees.

Thank you to the Madison County Republican Executive Committee, @ms_mcrw, and the Madison County Republican Club for hosting me for the America 250 Celebration. We have real momentum going in Mississippi and in America and I was pleased to be able to share some of the Legislative successes we have experienced over the last several sessions. From establishing a pathway to eliminate the personal income tax in Mississippi, removing burdensome regulations in our healthcare system with antiquated CON laws, to building on the "Mississippi Miracle" with transformational policies in education, Mississippi's future is bright! The record is clear: Conservative polices work. The best way to enact conservative policies is to elect Republicans to local, state, and federal office. And these Madison County Republicans get it.

From our country’s beginning, for as long as America has embodied freedom and exceptionalism, the soul of our nation has been rooted in the Christian faith. Today we gather, as our forefathers did on this day centuries ago, to rededicate our nation to God.

We are excited to announce the formation of six new House Select Committees to study key issues facing Mississippi and develop policy recommendations ahead of the 2027 Legislative Session. The newly established committees will focus on Government Efficiency, Property Taxes, Redistricting, Judicial Operations, Consolidation, and Specialty Schools. The Mississippi House of Representatives has consistently demonstrated a willingness to take on complex issues with thoughtful study, serious discussion, and deliberate action. Our Select Committee process allows members to engage stakeholders, examine policy from every angle, and build informed, conservative solutions that serve the people of Mississippi. As we prepare for the next legislative session, these six committees will focus on some of the most important structural and policy matters facing our state. Whether it is ensuring government operates more efficiently, evaluating our tax structure, strengthening our judicial system, or improving how specialized educational institutions serve Mississippi families, these committees will help shape meaningful legislation that reflects our commitment to responsible governance. Following the success of previous Select Committees, which produced substantial legislation and meaningful reforms, the House is once again taking a proactive approach to governing. By beginning this work now, we will enter the next legislative session with clear priorities, well-developed policy solutions, and a continued focus on advancing commonsense conservative leadership for Mississippi.

Today, the House adjourned Sine Die, concluding the 2026 Legislative Session. The House maintained its commitment to a transparent budgeting process, allowing all legislators to review government spending prior to voting. I’m pleased that House and Senate appropriators worked together to complete a responsible budget. We have many legislative victories to be proud of, spanning across healthcare reforms, education, PERS, and conservative measures. We came into this Session with the momentum to expand education freedom, build on our gains, and invest in Mississippi’s future generation. While the House is certainly disappointed to have been unable to engage in conversation with the Senate on Education Freedom, when providing options for families resurfaces, and it most certainly will, the House will be ready to prioritize students over systems, and parents over the status quo. The House will continue to embrace challenges and seek solutions. Thank you to my fellow colleagues for the privilege and trust to lead the Mississippi House of Representatives, to my staff for their hard work, and to the people of Mississippi who elected us to confront uncomfortable issues and make tough decisions to build a better, brighter Mississippi.

For the third consecutive year, the House has tried to provide relief for independent pharmacists with PBM reform. However, the Senate has repeatedly taken this legislation too far, placing the cost burden on the shoulders of Mississippi’s patients. The House’s original bill, and the only PBM reform bill that was before the legislature this Session, would have given independent pharmacists 90% of what they have been advocating for the past three years. Unfortunately, the hang-up continues to point to a mandated prescription fee that would have increased annual healthcare expenses by millions for plan sponsors and higher insurance premiums for hardworking Mississippians. The Governor has been working diligently with all interested parties to find an agreement. Lobbyists for the independent pharmacists have been offered numerous compromises but have so far been unwilling to negotiate. Based on these conversations, the Governor has indicated he would be unlikely to sign House Bill 1665 into law in its current form. With the deadline to Concur or Invite Conference today, HB 1665, as amended by the Senate, is dead. To continue the legislature’s efforts on this issue, the House is requesting Governor @tatereeves call a Special Session within this Regular Session to address PBM reform. The House has consistently made efforts to ease the concerns of our local pharmacists, and we are committed to doing so without harming businesses and Mississippians. The House will remain focused on doing the right thing for all Mississippians. We anticipate further negotiations among all parties to reach a solution that is agreeable within the next few days. It is the Mississippi House of Representatives’ goal to consider and pass a bill that takes into account our state’s patients and businesses, in addition to independent pharmacists.
