Found this in my bath, but it seems happier now in the spare room. Textrix denticulata @BritishSpiders?

But everyone knows 1976 was much hotter right? Except that the hottest day in the UK that year was 35.9ΒΊC, which isn't even in the top 10 now. The hottest day on record in Britain was 40.3Β°C in 2022. The five hottest are all since 2000.
This article says climate change is β€œbelieved to have played a role” in the UK's extreme heat this week. As a climate scientist, let me fact-check that. First, climate change is not a religion. No belief is required. It is about evidence. And the evidence has been crystal clear for more than two decades: climate change is making heat waves hotter, longer, more frequent and more dangerous. In fact, science has advanced far beyond saying climate change merely β€œplayed a role.” Today, we can quantify how much more likely and how much hotter climate change made a specific event. Here's the bottom line: Climate is changing. Humans are responsible. And we are experiencing the impacts now. That’s the bad news. The good news is that solutions already exist, and the majority of people care - 89%, around the world! But meaningful action depends on helping people understand not just what is happening: we need to know how it affects our lives (this heat wave being example A today) and what we can do about it. That’s the opportunity this reporting missed. bbc.com/news/articles/c8xwwp…

Sad to see that this is @ScotPollinators' last blog. Many thanks to Jim and Athayde, for sharing their knowledge over the years. A good summary, from Athayde: "life as we know it on planet Earth depends on insects’ success in facilitating sexual intercourse between plants"
Pollination: wonder, beauty and services. That the topic in Athayde's blog this morning. Blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpres…

Thanks for sharing this Steven.
Fantastic new resource for European bees, hoverflies and butterflies from the Pollinator Academy pollinatoracademy.eu/pollina…. Invaluable for anybody involved preofessionally with pollinators or keen amateur recorders/researchers.

Here is a little plea that in the week of David Attenborough's centenary, we remember his achievements beyond the natural world, important as those are. tinyurl.com/fkt2jd8n

Got distracted at work yesterday by this cute little Pseudeuophrys lanigera - also known as House Jumping Spider. A name that I feel would benefit from a carefully placed hyphen. Or maybe that would be dull.

Is it possible to say if this is Bombus muscorum or pascuorum? It looks pretty ginger to me but how ginger is enough? In Inverness this afternoon.

Saw this, thought of @HPluckrose. It's true for everyone else as well though and possibly the most valuable thing you'll see on TwitterX today.

A trip to @RBGE in Edinburgh makes a trip to our wonderful capital city that bit more special. As well as meadows, and adapted mowing regimes, their winter garden management practices for established beds are being modified to provide standing stems for overwintering insects.

A bumble bee out and about in a garden near you flies thanks to complex evolutive adaptations that allow her to keep her temperature under control, so that she may carry on with her pollination work. See Athayde's latest blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpres…

Lovely to see the pasqueflowers coming out at Barnack Hills and Holes today. I reckon it'll be a week or so before they're in their full glory but there are already some great patches.
