This is so true
Just because teachers speak up/ against or disagree doesnt mean they're not "all about the kids". In fact, they may recognize that the 'new" mandates or curriculum aren't effective or more likely just recycled ones from the past that weren't effective the first time.

An effective leader will not feel threatened by the competence of those they lead, but will see the competence as an asset to the team. Best Team Wins!

Effective leaders don't feel the need to micromanage because they know their staff are the experts. They know their role is to sometimes mentor, but always support and encourage those they lead. Effective leadership is about getting the best out of those you lead!

Shout it for all to hear!
Administrators, remember your veteran teachers probably have more expertise and experience than the people trying to create and sell new curriculum and initiatives to your district. Seek their input first.

We have always had SEL in schools. It was called recess, unstructured play, and classes like Music, Art, Physical Education, etc. but they have been systemically taken away or reduced because some have decided testing is more important than learning.

Do you hear us? Every school district listen!
I would encourage every school district to remove something from their teachers plate without adding anything new this fall. As long as we expect teachers to con't to work 50-60 hours per week, weekends and holidays, then the only real self care is leaving the field.
Teachers who are passionate, on the ball, sometimes outspoken and have high expectations in the classroom, also have the same expectations of their leaders. Effective leaders embrace these staff members who help create a dynamic high performing culture.
