I have long supported voter ID requirements for federal elections, which is why I cosponsored the SAVE Act to make certain only U.S. citizens are voting in federal elections.

During a @SenateAgGOP hearing this week, I shared with @SecRollins that 400,000 bushels of grain sorghum grown in KS are on their way across the globe through Food for Peace. Under the management of @USDA, the program is helping American farmers fulfill their noble calling of feeding the world.⬇️

Thirty years ago today, Senator Bob Dole gave his farewell speech on the floor of the Senate, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication & compassion. He cared deeply about representing the people of KS, & he had a profound respect for the institution of the Senate. He left his country, nation & state in better shape than when he arrived, & he always knew that the brighter days were yet to come. Today, we honor Sen. Dole’s legacy that shows the difference one person can make – regardless of their background, birthplace or education. Kansans & Americans hold him in the highest regard – & he lived a life worthy of that respect.

Anthony Powell has a long history of working for Kansans – from serving in the state legislature, as a judge for the 18thJudicial Court & most recently as the Kansas Solicitor General. I met with Judge Powell during the selection process for the position of U.S. District Judge for Kansas. I witnessed his commitment to public service, devotion to our Constitution & respect for Kansans. For those reasons, I was pleased to recommend him to the White House. Congratulations on your confirmation.⬇️

Yesterday, I spoke on the Senate floor on my plan to introduce legislation and pass the Major Richard Star Act along with other bipartisan legislation to improve health care and benefits for veterans. It has been over five years since the Major Richard Star Act was introduced, and under both Republican and Democratic majorities, it has failed to pass either the House or the Senate. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to work with me on this path forward to restore benefits to retirees with combat-related disabilities, offset the costs of those benefits, earn the support of veterans and advocates, and pass the Senate and House to be signed into law.

GOOD NEWS: 400,000 bushels of grain sorghum grown in western KS are being shipped through the Food for Peace program to feed hungry people around the world. KS farmers first had the idea to create Food for Peace – a program that expands markets for U.S. producers, bolsters the fight against global hunger & strengthens our national security. I’m pleased by the progress we are seeing with the program now under the administration of @USDA, & I will continue working to make the move permanent. Special thanks to @SorghumGrowers Chair Amy France & board member Jim Sipes for helping at the loading site yesterday & for their efforts to support our ag producers & feed the hungry.
400,000 bushels. 108 railcars. One important reminder of the impact U.S. sorghum can have around the world. This week, NSP Chair Amy France and board member Jim Sipes visited Kansas to see a 108-car train being loaded with approximately 400,000 bushels of U.S. sorghum for Food for Peace programs under USDA administration. Shipments of this scale demonstrate the value of Food for Peace as a tool that supports demand for U.S.-grown commodities while delivering food assistance around the world. From sorghum fields to international markets, America’s farmers continue to play an important role in feeding a growing world. Thank you to Skyland Grain for hosting us and for their continued partnership in moving sorghum through the supply chain and creating opportunities for producers. #StandWithSorghum #FoodForPeace #Sorghum

It was great to visit with Central Heights Honor Flight from Kansas while they were touring the Capitol this week. These veterans served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and had the opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to them and their fellow servicemembers. There is no group of Americans I hold in higher regard than our nation’s heroes. These brave men and women truly represent the best of Kansas, and I’m thankful for the chance to meet them and express my gratitude for the sacrifices they made to protect our freedoms. Thank you the Honor Flight team, volunteers and family members of the veterans who made this trip possible. To the Kansas veterans on the Honor Flight, on behalf of a grateful nation, we thank you for your service.

Today, we take the time to remember the thousands of men who fought for our freedom 82 years ago on the beaches of Normandy. As we reflect on the service of the Greatest Generation, we remain committed to honoring their sacrifice and supporting their legacy.

The Rural Health Transformation Program, created in the Working Families Tax Cut Act, is investing $80 million in 39 Kansas health care providers to address the root challenges facing rural health care and bolster the long-term success of hospitals and providers across the state. Kansas will receive $222 million in the program’s first year, making Kansas the sixth-highest recipient across the country. This is an historic investment in rural health care, and over the next five years, Kansas providers are estimated to receive $1 billion from the program.

PASSED: The Secure America Act provides critical funding for the Department of Homeland Security, making certain border patrol and immigration enforcement agencies have the resources needed to apprehend violent criminals, combat human trafficking, keep illegal drugs out of our communities and secure our borders. My colleagues and I worked to implement reforms for ICE and Border Patrol and provide critical resources to make certain that all our federal law enforcement agencies are properly equipped to defend our homeland and keep Americans safe. While it did not receive the necessary votes to pass, I also voted to support an amendment to include the SAVE America Act, legislation I cosponsored to make certain only U.S. citizens are voting in our federal elections.
