The BBC finally getting something right for a change I wonder why the British population's trust in media is so low?
Trust in news hits a new low, research suggests bbc.in/4uFL0Zz

For a very brief period in time, we were riding at 37KPH, sometimes higher, without touching the pedals and on the flat This is what winds on the Tibetan Plateau at 3200m above sea level can do Unfortunately, at this time of year, they prevail against us, this was an anaomaly

Very well said @RobbieBarwick note that 2 of the committee members clapped in approval and the 3rd member, Retd Admiral Barrie, confirmed your stance ASPI has gone awry. I suggest ASPI be disbanded and reformed with academics and experts not commercial (for profit) management
My testimony to the opening hearing of the AUKUS Public Inquiry: * AUKUS is a product of foreign interference from the USA & UK through their funding of @ASPI_org. * AUKUS is already taking a human toll, on jailed innocent Australian @FreeDanDuggan & his wife & six children.

🇺🇸/IRAN - There is no US-Iran "Deal" ▪️The US signed multiple arms control treaties with the Soviet Union, then the Russian Federation, agreed to "One China" with Beijing, and singed a "Nuclear Deal" specifically with Iran... All of these treaties, agreements, and deals have one thing in common, they all extracted obedience from targets of US primacy, AND they've all been categorically violated and in most cases unilaterally withdrawn from at the moment it was beneficial for the US to do so. The only exception is "One China" which the US still pretends to uphold, but only because when it says "One China," it actually means all of China is under the fake admin in Taiwan the US created and controls, not Beijing. Do you understand the point here? There are no agreements possible with the US. Only illusions of agreements the US makes to buy time for itself and to position targeted nations ahead of betrayal planned before any of these agreements were even proposed let alone signed. The toppling of Iran using the "Nuclear Deal" was proposed in 2009 by the Brookings Institution then verbatim carried out over the course of the Obama, Trump, Biden, and Trump administrations. Recall the tale of the scorpion and the frog which teaches children actions speak louder than words, to be cautious of false charms and dishonest rationalizations, and most importantly, that nothing can change the inherent nature of some people or in this case an entire system. This will not be the first time in US history Washington honors its word, if an actual deal is even arrived at.

I love the way @RobbieBarwick challenges these so called experts @SamRoggeveen has never seen this instruction - we know this for a fact because it's never been given Therefore Sam is either lying or he's mistaken and his publication needs to issue a retraction and apology
Question to @SamRoggeveen: When did Xi issue this instruction? "Nevertheless, Xi has also instructed the PLA to be ready for a Taiwan invasion by 2027, and training activity around the island has increased and become more sophisticated in recent years." navalinstitute.com.au/taiwan…

Four books on poverty alleviation in China. I have about 30 more. The best of these is "China's Poverty Alleviation Operations" by Huang Chengwei, and published by China Intercontinental Press. It does an excellent job of showing how there were actually about 250 million people living in abject poverty in 1978. Sometimes people use 2011 poverty lines and project them backwards to 1980 with the false claim that there were 800 million people living in extreme poverty at that time. But this book gets the statistics right. But all the books have extremely useful information and use different villages and examples to explain the incredible work done by the people of China, and the Communist Party of China to end extreme poverty in 2020. They also discuss the contemporary efforts to continue this process to both prevent backward sliding and also to raise the poorest people's living standards eve further.

I just crossed the same region on the ground, on a bike We have a lot of stroeis to share when both our trips are done @commiepommie
Crossing the Gobi heading into Xinjiang is absolutely breathtaking. Lush mountain ridges, open grasslands, vast desert, snow-capped peaks and the 100,000 kW solar plant in Jinta, Jiuquan (Gansu), part of one of the world’s largest integrated multi-energy renewable bases. 🇨🇳

What if your road trip came with a built-in soundtrack? Along China's G331 Highway, engineers have created a "singing section" that transforms the road into a giant musical instrument. (Video courtesy of Douyin@65331354770)

So much of the US claims of "freedom of navigation" Bloody hypocrites!
Breaking! Former foreign minister Gareth Evans has told the AUKUS Public Inquiry that the strategic benefit of AUKUS to the USA is the subs base at Stirling, WA. So the US can "interdict" Chinese energy supplies going through the Malacca Strait. I.e. it's a threat to sea lanes.

This is extraordinarily rare. In fact, according to a key figure in the German business community (who is a dear friend of mine), it's unprecedented. An op-ed, two pages, centerpiece, in Germany’s most important economic newspaper (the Handelsblatt) that begs the German establishment to stop looking at China via the prism of propaganda. And it's by their Shanghai bureau chief - not some outside contributor. The title is "The China debate cannot continue like this!" and the article makes the case that it's suicidal, from a German and European standpoint, to keep reducing China to false caricatures rather than facts. In effect it's rubbish in, rubbish out: if you tell people lies about China - whichever direction they go (anti or pro) - then obviously the policies that come out will be rubbish, designed for a mirage of a country that exists only in people's imagination. Needless to say, this is absolutely music to my ears because it's literally the main point I've been making in my advocacy around China for now almost 10 years. Some are finally seeing the light... I also believe, as I argued in my article "Are Western media turning China-friendly?" last year (arnaudbertrand.substack.com/…) that this type of coverage was bound to happen, and there will be more and more of it. Why? For a very simple structural reason: China is now too powerful to coerce. The West, and Europe in particular, just don't have the leverage anymore. Which means that if you tell China to do something and they don't want to, they just won't do it. Period. In this situation, incapable of coercing, your only remaining choice is... convincing. And what do you need if you want to convince someone? Well, you need to understand them: understand how they think, how they behave, what drives them, what they actually want. In other words: the moment coercion stops being an option, not only does propaganda stop being useful, it begins to be actively harmful as genuine understand becomes a strategic necessity. Reality is finally becoming profitable again. Which means, if you're a journalist reading this and you're peddling some of your usual lies, describing China as some sort of cartoonish dictatorial dystopia that's simultaneously on the verge of collapse yet a "threat" to the whole world (in short, if you write on China for The Economist or the FT), be on notice: the real threat to your country isn't China. It's you.

Imagine China hosted a World Cup, the media would spin everything as propaganda but then fans visiting would be like: “travelling to different stadiums is sooo cheap and fast” “wait its ok to walk alone at night?” “why is the metro less than $1!?” “I can literally order anything to my hotel room within 20 minutes!?” would genuinely be one of the most powerful soft-power events of the century and make the fake version of China so much harder to sell.

I agree with this but find the comments below interesting (and amusing) In order to agree with it, I'm either paid by Putin or Xi, apparently, I'm not allowed to agree because I happen to think it's right No, I don't want to live in DPRK, I like China too much but will visit
Kim Jong Un is one of the greatest leaders in the modern era Navigated western sanctions trying to destroy his country, achieved full sovereignty and deterrence against the west, and secured massive deals with Russia and China which is leading to a booming economy

What's really embarrassing about this is not that it happened but not one person had the guts to tell the world that it happened And this is the media we're supposed to believe - it comes out after Pelly's termination as a sour grapes story THE NEWS WE'RE SUPPOSED TO TRUST
BREAKING: Scott Pelley Just Made A Pretty Stunning Allegation. According to Pelley, CBS leadership wanted a story about the killing of ICE protester Renée Good changed to better match Trump's version of events. Pelley says he was told management wanted protesters portrayed as more violent and wanted Good described as driving toward the officer who shot her. He says the video evidence showed otherwise. Then came the admission. "There was a thumb on the scale for the president's version of events." A veteran journalist with 37 years at CBS is alleging political pressure was applied to change the facts of a story. That's a remarkable accusation.
