Some personal news: today is my last day @delawareonline. 😢
My husband, the wonderful and amazing @DanielTLinehan, just got a job in Madison, Wisconsin, which is closer to our families.
Big thanks to everyone who has made working here in Delaware so special! Much love! ❤️

I work on Sundays, which means I've been covering this since the very beginning. And it's been heartbreaking, every story sadder than the last. If you haven't yet read our story on what the boys were like, I suggest you do. delawareonline.com/story/new…#netDE
Here's everything we know so far. Stay tuned for updates as we work to confirm whether or not 6-year-old Ethan has been recovered. delawareonline.com/story/new…#netDE

Last fall, Wilmington Police began reducing the amount of information they provide to the public about violent crime.
Instead, citizens get their information from whatever rumors are being spread on the streets – whether they are true or not.

In this story, @eparra3 explains why it's so important for residents to have access to public safety info. Without it, people can't know to avoid a street where a drive-by shooting just occurred, or could step outside their homes into an active siege. delawareonline.com/story/new…
Motorists may not realize it, but an increasing number of new cars – in fact, 1 in 3 2018 models – have laminated side windows, a nearly unbreakable glass. Getting out of a sinking car may be even trickier than you think. delawareonline.com/story/new…#netDE
The paper reported on a police officer's relationship with a teen & got sued. They won the suit, but now legal/other fees are threatening to put them under. If you care about the role of papers in our communities at all, please donate. gofundme.com/f/rural-iowa-ne…#journalismmatters
Don't be fooled into thinking this is rare. I once reported that a school laid off staff because it FORGOT TO BALANCE THE BOOKS @ the end of the year & couldn't find the $. The district threatened to stop running public notices (big source of $ for small papers) in retaliation.
Moral of the story: Some public officials/police agencies/local governments can and will put small newspapers out of business if we let them. They don't want certain things public and will fight to silence reporters. Donate if you can: gofundme.com/f/rural-iowa-ne…#journalismmatters
