Via repost, I was reminded of this graphic showing how terminology for units varries by country. To summarize some of the more insane elements:
1. The unit size for Troops and Squadrons is one tier higher for the 🇺🇸 than 🇬🇧.
2. The 🇺🇸 term for a battalion with attachments (800-1,500 troops) is identical to the 🇬🇧 term for all the army, navy and air personnel deployed to a country or region (usually over 50.000-500,000 troops).
3. To the 🇺🇸 teams are larger than groups. To the 🇬🇧 groups are large than teams.
3. Everyone uses Regiments, but they mean totally different things
And that’s for the two most similar military systems arguably in world history, from two countries that speak the same language and used to be the same country.
It also doesn't help that cross armies the terminology is a total mess
