Um projeto em tramitação na Câmara pretende liberar a importação de veículos seminovos e usados por pessoas físicas e jurídicas no Brasil. A proposta, apresentada pelo parlamentar Marcel van Hattem, elimina as restrições atuais que permitem apenas a entrada de modelos zero quilômetro ou veículos antigos destinados a coleção. Caso aprovada, a medida permitirá a importação de automóveis de qualquer ano de fabricação para uso regular.
Pelo texto, os veículos importados estariam sujeitos às mesmas alíquotas tributárias aplicadas a modelos semelhantes comercializados no mercado nacional. Além disso, os automóveis precisariam atender às exigências brasileiras relacionadas à emissão de poluentes para obter autorização de circulação no país.
A proposta divide opiniões. Defensores afirmam que a mudança ampliaria a concorrência, aumentaria as opções disponíveis aos consumidores e facilitaria o acesso a tecnologias presentes em mercados internacionais. Já representantes do setor automotivo alertam para possíveis impactos na indústria instalada no Brasil, além de dificuldades relacionadas à manutenção, disponibilidade de peças e adequação de alguns modelos às normas nacionais de segurança e eficiência energética. O projeto ainda aguarda análise nas comissões da Câmara antes de avançar para as próximas etapas de votação.

My predictions on the future of immigration:
- The right will largely win out on the issue
- The West will gradually move to a Gulf-esque immigration system where lots of immigrants are imported but never given citizenship and eventually send back
