The people who have the most to gain from blockchain tech are the people who are most optimistic about it. The people who have the most to lose, are the people most negative about it. Think about this next time you read a hit piece from the NYT.

An excellent piece here, balanced and thoughtful, with some deeper insights alongside the TLDR of digital asset treasuries. Well worth a read.

Blockworks paid Nigel Farage £30,000 for an appearance at Digital Asset Summit. Two weeks before laying off their entire newsroom. h/t @ConnorSephton

A 50 year mortgage. Life expectancy for men in the US is 75 years. Take one out in your mid-20s, and with any luck, you can pay it off right before you die. Seems an easy sell to young people who already feel the system is rigged against them.

Banks don't want you to earn yield on stablecoins. Why not? Pretty simple, really. If YOU can make money from your money, THEY can't.

Journalism matters. The accounts cited here delivering breaking news rely on... journalists. This is not a jab at Blockworks -- it's great they are finding a profitable vertical in crypto information. But crypto is not fine without newsrooms and journalists. The opposite is true: crypto doesn't have ENOUGH quality journalism. We need more investigations, more scoops. We need reporters doing the legwork, not just KOLs spouting their thoughts on X. Uncovering dirt, fact checking, data crunching, putting faces and human stories to this mind-boggling industry, UNCOVERING DIRT, etc... all the hard work that's under appreciated but so crucial. It's why I'm here, and why @DefiantNews is here.

About Blockworks shutting down their news division: Tbh, you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to see this would happen sooner or later. The same is true for eg. CoinDesk. Crypto news have changed a lot over the years, and I feel what was the kicker was the arrival of Tree of Alpha, @tier10k, and later Tree News. They provided speed and made news mainstream for CT. For non-BREAKING news we're already well covered from different newsletters and Telegram channels from VCs and KOLs. For speedy news just follow these accounts and channels: 1. @zoomerfied and TG: t.me/ZoomerfiedNews 2. @AggrNews and TG: t.me/AGGRNEWSWIRE 3. t.me/infinityhedge You could also include Solid Intel and Wu Blockchain into the mix here, but I think the 3 above covers the most. And just to end this, not trying to mock Blockworks here, and I am sure these people will find similar positions or other roles.

Hire Casey. Hire Ben. Hire Katherine. Hire Kate. Hire Jack. Hire Donovan. Hire Molly Jane. Hire Jeff. Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with this team, to see them grow and push themselves. I'm damn proud of them all. Hire them.
Sad to report that I was impacted by Blockworks’s decision to shut down its news division. I joined the team as a founding reporter in 2021 & I’m proud of what we accomplished over the past few years. Media is an undeniably challenging business, but journalism is indispensable, especially when it comes to an emerging industry like crypto. I’m hoping to continue to work in this space, my DMs are open for any leads on new opportunities.

Sorry to say that I was part of Blockworks' newsroom closure today. I've had a great few years there, building their op-ed department and then helping the team transition to a newsletter-first newsroom. If you hear of anything crypto/writing/editing-related — my DMs are open.

Sad to say I was also impacted by these layoffs. So proud of the work our team did and, while I’m bummed I won’t be working with everyone directly anymore, I can’t wait to see where my incredibly talented ex-colleagues land. Sad day for crypto journalism. Onwards & upwards.

Some personal news: I was one of the people let go following Blockworks' newsroom closure. Blockworks took a chance hiring me coming out of college with little formal journalism training. I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity — and for all the learning and growth that came along with it. I'm also proud of the work my colleagues and I produced. Crypto is a tough industry to cover well, and we did our jobs with integrity. If you know of any opportunities in journalism/media, my email is jackkubinec(at)gmail .com.

You may have heard about Blockworks shutting down its newsroom. I was among those affected. I’m really proud of what my colleagues and I built: a newsroom that cared deeply about high-quality journalism (and each other) as we navigated a fast-paced, complex space. I also loved writing the Forward Guidance newsletter and appreciate those who took the time to read it. Saddened to see it end this way, but it was a cool 4 years. Looking forward to what’s next; open to opportunities. I have a feeling you’ll hear plenty more from the talented members of this team soon, within crypto or otherwise.
