Interesting news and was really only a matter of time. Companies should listen to patients, and each individual weigh risks/benefits of all evolving hemophilia therapies. Sometimes patience is the wise approach. #hemophilia #genetherapy reuters.com/business/healthc…

With 70% of bleeding events linked to identified or suspected causes, this study highlights the pressing need for better strategies, including long-term VWD factor (VWF) prophylaxis, to reduce hospitalizations and improve quality of life. Read More: bit.ly/3UWiu6Z

Centessa have discontinued development of their rebalancing agent, Serpin PC despite encouraging Phase 2 PREScent clinical trial results Decision due to competition from marstacimab and possibly concizumab. This leaves these 2 plus Fitusiran in trials or licenced @ProfMakris

I strongly disagree with this commentary in the journal Blood Transfusion. The authors try to justify the decision of the @WHO to have cryoprecipitate and pathogen reduced cryoprecipitate (rather than FVIII concentrate) for the treatment of #hemophilia in the list of essential medicines. I do not know of ANY hemophilia treater who agrees with the World Health Organisation policy. What they recommend is dangerous for persons with #hemophilia in poor countries. Pathogen reduced cryo is only available in a tiny number of countries (?2). So essentially they are recommending unsafe cryoprecipitate and suggesting these poor countries introduce the technology to pathogen reduce the cryoprecipitate. It is about time that the @WHO includes hemophilia treaters in the "expert panel" who make recommendations for treatment of persons with hemophilia. tinyurl.com/mtuyt5fs

ATIII deficiency can significantly increase thrombosis risk, particularly VTE. Recurrent thrombosis in 58.6% of patients (44.8%) despite AC. 35% of patients received ATIII concentrate and 84% of these for prophylaxis. jthjournal.org/article/S1538…

Curious to know if vWD affects pregnancy outcome❓ This multi-center cohort study finds no significant difference in pregnancy loss risk between women with von Willebrand disease (VWD), those with similar bleeding disorders, and non-bleeding controls (OR of pregnancy losses in the VWD group versus non-VWD group was 0.94, 95% CI 0.65, 1.36). ✍️ @leslieskeith @james_paulad @PKouides @lisa_duffett @sholzberg @ragnmv @CukerMd Read more at jthjournal.org/article/S1538…
