Cricket anorak, punk rock lover, imbiber of real ale. Author of ‘Horace Snary: Resolute Rutlander’ published by the Association of Cricket Statisticians
New issue of CCM is here, with this lovely cover. Thanks to @AnnieChave for letting me write about Vinciness and then putting it next to a piece on Northlands Road... a Hampshire feast...

A very special anniversary for @NorthantsCCC followers, especially those of us 'of a certain age.' Fifty years ago today - June 5th 1976 - David Steele hit his first (and, sadly, his only) Test century for @englandcricket against Windies at Trent Bridge. Boy, did he deserve it!
On this day in 1922 during the game between @DerbyshireCCC and @WarwickshireCCC at Derby, Warwickshire's father and son Quaife batsmen faced the Derbyshire’s father and son Bestwick bowlers for six overs.
This is the only such instance in first class cricket.

It was lovely for @ACScricket to meet @archivist_al in the @HomeOfCricket library who tends a wonderful collection of cricket books and magazines. Like the Louvre there is only so much that can be shown at any one time. Well worth a visit for any cricket fan. #cricketcounts
I've got an article in here on Herbert Rhodes, the circumstances of whose death are among the most scandalous for any cricketer. Get a copy to find out more!

“Tiger” Smith was the Warwickshire wicket-keeper for 20 years and England’s first-choice before the First World War. He went on to be an umpire and a coach. But his most extraordinary achievement might have been the autobiography published after his death

Wilfred Rhodes was a cricketing legend, taking more first-class wickets than anyone ever will, opening the batting for England and playing Test cricket in his 50s. But he constantly worked hard to remain at the cutting edge throughout a 32-year career.

Just finished "Blue Caps to New Zealand". A meticulously researched, fascinating story of the 1923/24 tour and the tours from other Australian sides which preceded it. Absolutely recommended for anyone interested in the formative years of New Zealand cricket.
While on the subject of naming things at @NorthantsCCC - we used to have the George Thompson Suite, honouring the man who batted and bowled Northamptonshire into first-class cricket, until it was re-named a few years ago. Next year will see the 150th anniversary of his birth…
Great to read this fascinating interview with Max Bonnell about his excellent @ACScricket biography of Leicestershire's Australian star Jack Walsh. Copies still available from the ACS shop.

Samuel Richardson was one of the most influential figures in the early years of Derbyshire cricket. Until one day he disappeared, leaving behind a trail of fraud. open.substack.com/pub/oldebo…
Fiery Fred didn't always choose his words with great care, but he certainly chose his heroes wisely - here he is pictured with a man he admired enormously, Harold Larwood, at the latter's Sydney home
