One of the aspects I value most about agriculture is that no two days (or seasons) are ever the same. Today, I spent time planting block trials with various planter box treatments. It brought up a simple but important question: What do I hope to learn from this?
Whether it’s biological inputs, planting populations, foliar applications, or hybrid and variety comparisons, there is always an opportunity to gain insight. Each trial represents a chance to better understand what drives performance and efficiency in the field.
In an industry facing tight margins from low commodity prices and rising input costs, challenges are pushing innovation forward. Farmers are being asked to adapt, refine, and make more data-driven decisions than ever before—and with that comes tremendous opportunity.
The truth is, I don’t yet know exactly what this year’s trials will reveal. And that uncertainty is what makes the process so rewarding. These trials are more than experiments… they are opportunities to learn, improve, and grow.
Looking forward to the season ahead and the lessons it will bring.
