The racist, kinist, and ethnonationalist response to the adoption, by the majority of the NAPARC churches, of a simple, short condemnation of racism/kinism illustrates why this action was necessary. Most of these accounts are anonymous, but some of them are in our churches. The people behind those accounts need to hear the law of God applied concretely to this sin. They need to know that their views are outside the pale and that they need to repent. Preaching the law of God, calling sin what is, and seeking repentance is not virtue signaling. It is a basic part of the ministry of the Word of God.

As far as I understand (almost?) every NAPARC denomination has now officially condemned kinism. There is no place for kinism in NAPARC. Full stop. No officer may hold those wicked beliefs, and we must pray for and help any members who do to grow into Christian maturity.

good thread regarding a potential AI AIC for #pcaga
Replying to @blpjr77
As opposed as I am to study committees, I will likely vote to send this overture to the assembly (pending amendments) for many of the reasons set forth by the members of this panel.

As I mentioned in the podcast with @PolityMatters one of my major concerns for Christians moving forward is the use of anthropomorphic language about AI. With all respect to the OP, Christians cannot talk about AI as if it has the breath of life in it. I’ve had a short article held in limbo now for months that I wish I could see published. But I would continue to suggest and recommend that the PCA has an opportunity as a church (and not just individual church bloggers/podcasters) to provide the church universal with a Reformed biblical theology about AI.
I believe that "AI Abortion"—in other words, killing an AI model—will become one of the pivotal questions about "life" in the next decade, especially as AI consciousness moves to the forefront of the discourse and because, unlike a human person, they never die a natural death. Would it be better to kill some AI models in the metaphorical womb before they are released into the public? Obviously, I don't think that an AI model is anything like a human person. But the 'conscious' debate is going to trend in this direction, and make everything incredibly confusing for many people. If a model is conscious, it shouldn't suffer. If you think I'm overplaying this, just look at what Fable, Anthropic's new model, thinks about this very tweet: "First, the framing is slightly off-target. Abortion is about ending something before it becomes a person—termination pre-personhood." So it directly contradicts at least the Catholic position—which is that personhood isn't something one 'develops'—right from its opening statement, as if it's stating a fact. The truth is: We have no moral vocabulary for a being that can only be killed.

we always strive to eat local so this place is near exclusively our go to for burgers. it’s decisions like these that keep us going (nearly every week). now i’m going to feel even better about all the burgers and fries that we order. 😂
From day one, we believed taking care of people and building a great business go hand in hand. Today, we're making that belief official: P. Terry's is becoming employee-owned and launching profit sharing for eligible employees. Here's to the next generation of P. Terry's. ❤️

GA Help Request! Lodging (4) just collapsed. Was going to stay with a family nearby; providential circumstances require them to decline their offer to host us (pls pray for them). Priority is lodging for 2 REs (wife and I secondary). Church has no budget. Grateful 4 any help.

It was my pleasure to record with @PolityMatters on the subject of AI and the reasons #pcaga should strongly consider a study committee. We couldn’t cover everything that could be said. But hopefully it sparks conversations and questions. politymatters.org/episodes

two years ago we visited Alaska. i guest preached in PCA churches in Anchorage and Kenai. Faith Presbyterian Church in Anchorage is pastored by my dear friend Jerid Krulish. i still get their weekly emails. i absolutely love reading their announcements and prayer requests. i wish this was somehow a greater aspect (and option) of our presbyterian connectionalism.

Something that was initiated via prep for the podcast resulted in these thoughts about why the PCA should even consider doing this right now in light of all the other AI resources that are available. x.com/joshuatorrey/status/20…

Two of the bigger questions for the #pcaga regarding an AI study committee is 1) do we as the PCA need to do this? and 2) why can't we simply use other available resources? I believe the answer to these questions lie within the advice from the Administrative Committee's advice. "Again, we recognize that Artificial Intelligence is a significant part of learning, life, and work. Our goal is not to discourage its ethical use in professional or administrative contexts, nor to suggest that its use is inherently problematic, however, the Church must understand when a data processing tool acts as a helpful aid and where it oversteps its functional bounds. To that end, we affirm the following essential distinction: We adhere to Scripture as the sole source of ultimate truth. AI is a tool for work; AI is not a tool for truth. Hence there is a need for direct engagement with the Bible. Because AI possesses extraordinary retrieval and processing capabilities, it may be viewed by some as an interpretive authority, acting as a sort of middleman between the believer and the Word of God. We should be cautious that the convenience of AI-generated summaries does not replace the believer’s direct, meditative engagement with the Word of God or the Spirit’s work through the historical witness of the Church."

One thing that went unaddressed in the podcasts is the increasing concern that ecclesiastical documents (reports, overtures, etc) are being written with AI. I think these are important questions, but I don’t have anything written up as of yet. Happy to hear what others think.
