Ayon sa dating coach ni Baterbonia na si Coach Jess, naging madamdamin ang magulang ni Rene nang makita ang UAAP jersey niya na ibinigay na sa pamilya ng official sporting brand partner ng Ateneo at UAAP.
Namatay si Baterbonia at isa pa niyang teammate nang malunod sila habang nagsasagawa ng "team training" sa Dimaculao, Aurora noong Lunes, June 8.
