I checked TVL for the same protocol on CryptoRank and DefiLlama on the same day.
Got a $5B difference.
No glitch. No bug. Just two platforms measuring the same metric differently.
Here's what's actually going on.

Golden rule before trusting any TVL number:
1. Is double-counting removed?
2. Are native tokens included?
3. How many chains are tracked?
4. On-chain data or market aggregation?
If two platforms show wildly different numbers, that gap is the insight.

TL;DR
CryptoRank → macro view, fast rankings.
DefiLlama → granular, auditable, built for research.
The data was never lying. You just needed to know what each platform was counting.
That's where the real alpha is.

Dune Dashboard Insight: Sky (MakerDAO) Balance Sheet.
Today I explored a Dune Analytics dashboard showing Sky’s monthly balance sheet since 2020, all measured in DAI.
My quick takeaway:

1. The green and blue sections represent assets backing the system held across crypto vaults, RWAs, and other vault types.
2. The yellow and orange sections show liabilities, mainly DAI in circulation and deposits in the DAI Savings Rate.

3. Over time, you can see Sky move from being mostly crypto backed to a more diversified asset base.
It’s a great way to see how the backing of a stablecoin evolves as the protocol grows.

Track inflows vs outflows, top wallets, contract interactions, and concentration.
Follow the flow to spot accumulation, dumping, or manipulation.

5. What changed and can this be gamed?
Compare before vs after upgrades, announcements, or market events.
Watch for wash trading, sybil wallets, and airdrop farming.
