Hong Kong's Court of Appeal will soon start hearing the appeals of 13 pro-democracy figures jailed last year for subversion as part of the city's largest national security case. Prosecutors are also appealing one acquittal. A short queue was seen outside court just before 8am.

David Webb said his proposal for a public transparency project was rejected by the University of Hong Kong. HKU's response to @AFP: "(HKU) is an institution dedicated to academic excellence, we will continue to uphold academic freedom and the freedom of thought and speech."

A few things to note from Hong Kong's mass sentencing today of 45 democracy advocates. - Benny Tai's 10-year term is the longest ever meted out using China's NSL - Owen Chow got the second-heaviest penalty at 93 months. Didn't get a discount because he pleaded not guilty
