Another family cries for help: Marine veteran Michael Shomate ruptured a brain aneurysm and suffered cardiac arrest on May 26, and was declared brain dead less than 24 hours later.
(Even the American Academy of Neurologyβs brain death guideline says you must wait at least 24 hours after injury to declare brain death.)
According to his wife, he is now being denied treatment even though he still has vital signs:
βMy husband was in full recovery mode after the aneurism and three cardiac arrests with his body returning to normal levels. Now they are just letting him sit there with no treatment because they said you can't treat a dead body.β
Dead people donβt have vital signs β Michael Shomate is critically ill, but he is not dead.
