A campaign went viral. Over five thousand people donated, most giving just fifty rand. That's not nothing. That's bus fare. People thought about it before they gave it. And what did the big investigation do with that? It spent its energy on the organizer. Her background, her connections, her trips abroad, her possible hidden agenda. All fair enough. But somewhere in all of that, the five thousand people just... vanished. Their reasons didn't make it into the story. That bothers me. Because those people are real. Whatever you think of the campaign, they made a decision. They felt something strongly enough to act on it. And instead of anyone asking what that was, what is going on in their lives, what question nobody is answering for them, the story basically said: here's who was pulling the strings. Case closed. This keeps happening. Every time ordinary people attach themselves to a movement that makes the establishment uncomfortable, the story becomes about the organizer's suspicious ties rather than what drove the crowd to show up in the first place. And people notice. They notice that their concerns get reframed, investigated, explained away, but never actually addressed. So they stop knocking on those doors. They go somewhere else. You cannot keep treating citizens like they have no agency and then wonder why the country remains fractured. Stripping people of their reasons doesn't neutralize them; it just delays peace. If we want any chance at real prosperity in South Africa, the establishment needs to grow up, look past the organizers, and finally listen to the crowd.

Crowdfund, create institutions, and pay these men. If communities want disciplined, organized men standing for their people, then build lawful structures around it. Register institutions, operate within South African law, create jobs, training, accountability, and leadership pipelines, similar to how private security and community organizations operate. That is far better than random outrage or uncontrolled action. Organized institutions create responsibility, stability, and long-term community development.

I honestly like this idea. Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, already share a lot culturally, politically, and economically: functioning democratic states, regional cooperation, and populations with strong national identity and patriotism. What I’m imagining is not one country swallowing the others, but a federal union: one federal constitution, one president and parliament, and shared responsibility over the military, foreign policy, immigration, currency, and federal law, while each member state retains autonomy over policing, education, local taxation, infrastructure, and regional laws. Basically, similar to how federations like the United States or Germany operate: one united country with strong regional governments. A new flag and identity would probably have to emerge from that as well.😭
