Guillermo del Toro says AI is a form of "natural stupidity" “We are on the verge of image illiteracy. We are on the verge of cinema illiteracy... The pact between man and image is sacred, but we are in a time when that is in danger... We are told images can be generated by artificial means. The existence of an image is not just to be there. It is to connect us, to make us feel beauty,” he said. wp.me/pc8uak-1lHpzQ

Spielberg and Scorsese becoming AI users is such a bad look. Makes me appreciate Coppola even more for not succumbing to that state
Emily Blunt on creating the alien clicking sounds in ‘DISCLOSURE DAY’ "Steven and I discussed it and he said "We could do it with AI or you could do it" and I said "I feel confident I can make some weird noises." And I was sending him voice memos of me clicking, humming mixed with morse code sounds… I just tried everything." (Via @etnow)
Community note
Steven Spielberg addressed this directly and said he would’ve ‘never’ used AI for the alien sounds x.com/cyrilh44/statu…

The Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800 #adg800 issued a statement this week on Martin Scorsese’s recent promotion of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). See the statement below and @Forbes article: forbes.com/sites/hannahabrah… "Mr. Scorsese, The Business is not in flux. Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese is turning his back on the human artists who throughout his career have helped him create his most memorable works. In the recently released Black Forest Labs video promoting their generative AI product FLUX, Mr. Scorsese asks the question, “how do you communicate what you see in your head to your cast and crew?” He claims the solution is the use of this generative AI program to do the jobs that are rightfully the jurisdiction of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers - human artists and designers who have been successfully collaborating with directors to visualize their films for decades. Mr. Scorsese's promotion of a generative AI product circumvents the input of Art Directors Guild Local 800 art directors, graphic artists, illustrators, production designers, scenic artists, set designers, and other talented Union professionals. Generative AI is only capable of producing this type of “cinematic intelligence” by ingesting large swaths of copyrighted work, likely scraped from the internet without consent, credit, compensation, or transparency. The skills of Art Directors Guild Local 800 artists and designers bring the highest level of value to any film or television production. To think their professional contributions can be mimicked or outshone by generative AI, which is built on work likely stolen from them and many other artists from around the world, is a betrayal of the collaborative nature of cinema."

there is literally no positive to generative AI, whether it's artistically or ethically or environmentally, there is no upside to it whatosever just hacks cutting corners out of the process at the detriment to the entire planet
Keke Palmer opens up about her thoughts on AI: "The climate stuff is worrying and concerning, but then there’s the reality that it’s not going anywhere. So I find myself trying to figure out how to be prepared, how to create things that protect the environment, be a part of things that are making it ethical. But I’m also understanding how it’s democratizing a lot of spaces for people that otherwise couldn’t reach them. So it’s weird. It can be so positive, but it also can be so damaging." wp.me/pc8uak-1lHjQZ

Yup. Outsourcing your control and decision making to a Slop Slot Machine is why AI doesn’t make sense in the Arts. Whatever it spits out, you can’t explain why you “chose” that detail, because you didn’t choose anything.

This is what happens when you become rich and famous and out of touch and all your friends and acquaintances are also rich and famous and out of touch. You start believing in scams pushed by other rich and famous and out to touch grifters. AI is a scam. Full stop. ✋

“AI is not going anywhere” is a PR line from a gen AI company press release that’s trying to make their bad broken technology seem inevitable. It’s bullshit. Please stop repeating it.

"Backrooms" director Kane Parsons says that using AI "defeats the purpose" of filmmaking: “If I could snap my fingers and make generative AI disappear forever, I probably would. Keep in mind that Tech bros are desperate for AI to be legitimate and be seen as "Artists" themselves and their only means is to bride any currently respected artist willing to sell their own integrity and beliefs away for a crate of cash.

Quite the stupid mistake and extremely disappointing to hear. We have amazing Storyboard artists working in Hollywood- that are fast and brilliant and understand the craft. He is so tone deaf doing this- a guy that makes millions taking away a job that pays 10-30k a film. This move and doing publicity about it- what a really stupid move, honestly. Shame on him. Does anybody else realizes how we are living a new and strong wave of AI propaganda in real time?, you can tell how they bought big and respected artists to put in big spaces where they can say “it’s just a tool” “it’s here to stay” and conformist garbage like that, it’s sad.

cannot stress enough how disappointing it is that Martin Scorsese is collaborating with an AI company and putting a stain on his name so late in his life and career. he is like the last person i’d expect this from
