#rootsinkashmir PRESS RELEASE 15 June 2026 A Handful of Foreign Citizens Cannot Decide the Future of Kashmiri Pandits Roots in Kashmir and Youth for Panun Kashmir strongly condemn the recent conclave held in Srinagar by an unregistered organisation claiming to represent Kashmiri Pandits. Certain statements made by some of its speakers, particularly certain foreign citizens, appear to be part of a larger agenda aimed at whitewashing the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits and their forced displacement. The Kashmiri Pandit community continues to stand firmly behind the Margdarshan Resolution of 1991, which remains the foundational document of the movement and the only viable framework for the dignified, secure and sustainable return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland. Mr. Vithal Chowdhary, President, Youth for Panun Kashmir, stated: "It is unfortunate that certain individuals claiming to represent Kashmiri Pandits chose to socialise with political figures while thousands of displaced Kashmiri Hindus continue to await justice and rehabilitation. " Mr. Chowdhary further questioned the contradiction between repeated claims of normalcy in Kashmir and the continued killing and displacement of the community from Kashmir. Mr. Amit Raina, a well-known activist, stated that political commentary and interventions by foreign citizens in the internal affairs of India are unwelcome. He further added that such actions and statements have the potential to endanger the lives and security of Kashmiri Pandits still residing in Kashmir. Speaking on behalf of Roots in Kashmir, Mr. Rahul Mahanoori reiterated that there can be no compromise on the community's core aspirations: Justice for the victims of genocide, a One-Place Settlement for displaced Kashmiri Hindus, and Union Territory status for the proposed homeland in Kashmir. Both organisations have also announced that they will conduct a Havan to pay homage to the martyrs of the community and to seek peace for the souls of those whose sacrifices and memories, they believe, have been dishonoured by the actions of a few individuals in Kashmir. .Open Letter to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Jammu & Kashmir Subject: Optics Over Justice - Kashmiri Pandits Still Waiting Since 2014 Hon’ble Sir, Photo-ops cannot substitute for rehabilitation at ground zero After assuming charge as Lieutenant Governor in August 2020, you visited Jagti on September 7, 2020 . The grievances articulated by the community during that visit remain unaddressed to date. In March 2021 , you inaugurated a Kashmiri Pandit community event at Pomposh Enclave, Delhi. Your remarks on that occasion and your remarks yesterday are substantially unchanged. Since then, the messaging has remained constant, but outcomes have not. Your administration has delivered no tangible relief to the community. Multiple commitments were made from that stage in the presence of Late Prof. B.B. Dhar of BHU. He is no more, and the commitments remain unfulfilled. The priority cannot be foreign-citizen Kashmiri Pandits. The priority must be Kashmiri Pandits at ground zero, in Kashmir, and the families still residing in camps and on relief. Above all, the participants at these meetings appear motivated primarily by: 1. A nominated seat in the Legislative Assembly; 2. A seat on the Apex Committee; and 3. Subsidies/freebies for personal business ventures. Community service is clearly not their objective. Your office ought to have verified who shared the stage with you yesterday. Governor’s office records have not been destroyed. Files from the tenure of then-Governor N.N. Vohra remain available for review. GKPD organized a similar Delhi event earlier - the 2-day Global Kashmiri Pandit Conclave on *February 25-26, 2022* at Sai Auditorium. In view of the organizer’s affiliation and history, threat perception for the community at ground zero increased following that event. *Sanjay Sharma, a Kashmiri Pandit bank guard, was shot dead in Pulwama on February 26, 2023.* Has anyone from GKPD visited his family? And now, an ex-official who failed to ensure the safety or return of Pandits during his tenure has RSVP’d for a lavish dinner in honour of the Lieutenant Governor and foreign-citizen Kashmiri Pandits at an elite golf course. When the British saw that this 25-year-old boy was not giving up, they forcibly tried to feed him milk by inserting a tube into his nose. The tube went into his lungs instead of his esophagus. The milk filled his lungs. He continued to suffer, vomiting blood, but he did not break his fast. On September 13, 1929, a revolutionary died in Lahore jail. 63 days... yes, 63 days without eating a single grain of food. In the pages of history, we often talk about Bhagat Singh's hanging, but forgot the companion who died in Bhagat Singh's arms. Today we are talking about 'Yatindra Nath Das', known to the world as 'Jatin Da'.  He was a bomb maker by profession, but his own body became his weapon. If he wanted, he could have apologized, he could have eaten. But he had only one demand: "Stop treating Indian political prisoners like animals." The British thought hunger would break him. But they didn't know that his body was made of steel, not clay. When Jatin Da's condition began to deteriorate, the British crossed all limits of cruelty. The prison doctor and guards pinned him down. A tube was inserted through his nose. He screamed in pain, but his resolve remained unshaken. When news of his martyrdom broke, the entire nation wept. It is said that when his body was being transported from Lahore to Calcutta, thousands of people stood at every station with flowers. More than 600,000 people attended his funeral in Calcutta. Subhash Chandra Bose himself shouldered his mortal remains. But today? How many people today remember that 63-day penance? As he lay dying, Jatin Da said, "I am not a saint, I am just an ordinary man willing to die for the dignity of his country." Whether independence came with the spinning wheel or without swords and shields is a matter of debate. But it is true that the decayed bones of young men like Jatin Da are embedded in the foundation of independence. We did not get this freedom for free; someone sacrificed 63 days of their youth by fasting for it. It is the duty of every Indian to know the price of the air they breathe. क्या आपको पता है धुएँ कि भी जाति होती है 👇 मध्य प्रदेश में एक दलित की चिता जलने से केवल इसलिए रोक दी गई क्योंकि उसका धुआं “ब्राह्मणों के श्मशान” तक चला जाता… उस पर भी शर्मनाक ये कि पुलिस भी दलित परिवार पर ही दवाब डाल रही है क्यूं की पुलिस प्रशासन खुद जातिवाद से अंदर तक सड़ा हुआ हैं। शर्म आनी चाहिए ऐसे समाज पर, जहां मौत के बाद भी दलित को सम्मान नहीं मिलता। ज़िंदा था तब दलित होने नाम पर भेदभाव, नफ़रत, ज़लालत, छुआछूत, और जब मर गया तो उसकी चिता का धुंआ भी "अछूत" हो गया जो ब्राह्मणों के शमशान तक नहीं पहुंचना चाहिए वरना बेचारे मरे हुए ब्राह्मण भी अशुद्ध हो जाएंगे। ये सिर्फ भेदभाव नहीं, ये इंसानियत की लाश पर खड़ा ब्राह्मणवाद है। जिस समाज में मृतक की चिता का धुआं भी जाति देखकर स्वीकार किया जाए, उस समाज को सभ्य कहलाने का कोई अधिकार नहीं।
