Two of the world’s leading skill acquisition researchers are Prof Mark Williams and Prof Nikki Hodges. They have just written a paper that neatly summarises five essential action-points coaches must consider when developing players They are here 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Their framework is called the Skill Acquisition Framework for Excellence (SAFE). It has five action-points to guide coach session design and coach behaviour 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Action Point 1 – Find the right balance in practice between focusing on long-term learning and short-term performance Action Point 2 – Focus on the quality rather than merely the quantity of practice Action Point 3 – Create practice conditions that are specific to competition Action Point 4 – Consider individual differences in how learners respond to different interventions Action Point 5 – Facilitate learning during practice rather than dictate or abdicate Want to learn more? Mark, Nikki, and I unpack their paper, in depth here: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…

A nation with too few pediatricians could see health care costs soar An important read! “Although this year’s Match featured more applicants than ever, a lower proportion of medical school grads chose one key specialty than ever before: pediatrics.” statnews.com/2024/04/02/too-…

Pediatricians make ~25% less than doctors who treat adults; all train for the same number of yrs. Reasons for lower compensation are simple economics: Pediatricians are not reimbursed by private & public insurance at the same level as adult providers. statnews.com/2024/04/02/too-…
