Crazy that every post on X right now is either "Don't buy a house unless you're a millionaire" Or "I know a guy worth $XX Million dollars. He said this_____"

Hey bro, can I pick your brain? You seem really knowledgeable, almost like you’ve spent years on your craft. I just want to hop on a call and pick your brain. I’d just really love to get a ton of value for free, take up a ton of your time, and offer absolutely nothing in return. Almost like you’re mentoring me ya know? Just a quick free brain pick. No harm no foul. Just some brain picking. No, I have nothing to offer. I’m broke. I also have no valuable information to offer in return. Just let me get a good brain pick in bro. Real quick.

The 1031 exchange is among the most overrated tools that exist in the real estate world……for buyers As a seller - I love it beyond belief 😍

What’s one piece of life advice you believe that would have people doing this?

We should be able to opt out of social security. The government is the worst money manager in the world – why do we have to let them save for our retirement? Odds are we’ll receive far less than we put in – and there’s no guarantee we’ll receive anything. Let those who prove competence in saving money opt out and stop feeding in to the broken system.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s nowhere better. It’s the best city in the country.
I’ve been living in New York City for over four years now. Yes, it’s expensive, taxes are high, and there are some interesting characters walking around. Those are some of the costs. Here’s what we get: Access to the best restaurants in America, no matter what type of food you’re in the mood for. Everything our family needs is just a short walk away. You constantly get to see friends in person, as they’re always passing through. Some of the best public and private schools in America. The network you build here, just by going about your day-to-day life, is incredible. You run into some of the most interesting people doing the most amazing things at the highest level. Access to the best doctors in the world. The career opportunities here are immense, no matter what you do. Central Park – my go-to spot – never gets old. If you’re a shopper, there’s nowhere better in America. If you’re an entrepreneur, this city forces you to think bigger on a daily basis. Broadway, sports, concerts, comedy – the highest level of entertainment, right in your backyard. The subway. Yes, the subway – and yes, millions of normal people take it every day – gets you around this place like a time machine. It’s a wonderful place to raise kids. Every kids' activity you can think of is just blocks away. Our son loves the Natural History Museum, and endless playdates are available either in our building or within a three-minute walk. Maybe all those folks who can afford to live anywhere in the world but choose to raise their families here aren’t so crazy after all. It’s had and always will have its ups and downs - long NYC 🙏

So I’m gonna assume every entrepreneur has had a failed business or idea at some point How do you bounce back? Feels like a simple question, but I’m asking seriously I spent 14 months building something Now it’s over And I’m struggling, no motivation, no direction, no momentum I have a new idea, something I actually want to work on But I can’t seem to dive in Any advice is appreciated

Read if you're not as rich as you want. These are your actual odds at "making it" and what you must do. In the US: 1 in 1,000 make over a million a year 1 in 11,000 over 10 mil.1 in 35,000 over 20 The Truth: If you want to "make it," you must be a freak. You must be an absolute outlier of behavior. The hardest worker out of your entire high school class for a mil. The best person out of every high school class in your city for 10 a year. You don’t get to keep normal. You don’t get to keep balance. If there’s 1,000 people in a room, you have to be better than 999 of them. If you want 20 mil , there needs to be an entire 35,000-person army dead around your feet for you to make it. You. Don’t. Get. To. Be. Like. The 999 (or the 34,999). Stop thinking you get to be human and balanced. By default you will be completely unrelatable to anyone you meet or know. You are going to need to operate and move differently than anyone you know. Different than all your childhood, high school, and college friends. Different than your parents and family. You will NOT meet anyone who relates to you, your sacrifices, or ideals without EXTREME effort. You are, without irony, trying to be a "chosen one." By default, 99.999% of people will not understand you and your behavior. You will be seen as extremely unreasonable. I tell you this because I meet too many people who think they can make it and still behave like a normie. They even resent this and try to find ways to make it while still being normal. But when you look at these extreme odds, you can't help but draw one conclusion... You are going to have to be extreme. You must be the 1 person in 11,000 willing to give up the most and push the hardest. Normal is done for you. Embrace your extremism. Make zero concessions. Relish in it and embrace it. Don't fight it. Lean into it. Everyone wants what you want. Everyone. But only an insanely tiny, small number of the most unreasonable, odd people will get it. If you want that to be you... Quadruple down on your unreasonable oddness. It's non-negotiable.

Full transparency. I spent 16 months trying to build a DTC CPG brand that never made it to market. People say this happens all the time, but when it happens to you, it’s draining, exhausting, and deflating All of the things that people say it will be, but you think "not for me!" Still, I’m grateful for the experience. I learned a lot, like, more than I ever could have imagined Learned that I’m not a cofounder guy (at least not right now) The trade-offs weren’t worth it Learned how wild the manufacturing process for a consumable really is Learned how much I didn’t know, and how much work it truly takes to launch a product Ultimately, I underestimated the sheer amount of work it would take. And overestimated my knowledge Kudos to everyone out there with a live product. Serious respect I’m taking the @iamshackelford route for now, agency first The product will come, maybe the same one, maybe not But next time, I’ll be more prepared

Incredible breakdown..

Agency vs Brand…which is better? The average established DTC focused agency is a company that has grown to $5M in revenue and $1M in ebitda. This agency is worth 4-7x multiple of ebitda based on growth rate, contract length, client churn and a few other factors. This business likely has 30-60 clients and the team is likely 30 full time domestic employees and 10 offshore contractors. The owners of this business can easily take out 60% of the profit annually (assuming business pays taxes) as long as the business has a strong bank balance to afford 1-3 months opex (90% of which is salaries). Most of the agencies that get to this size are around 5 years old. This is a good lifestyle business as long as you’re ok with constant people problems (team members being poached) and dealing with constant client fires (the more clients the more daily fires). The average established DTC brand is a company that has grown to $25M in revenue and $3M in profit. This business is worth anywhere from 3x profit all the way to 4x revenue (very rare) depending on the category and growth rate. Most of the brands that get to this size are also around 5 years old. The interesting part of this business is owners will likely only be able to take home around 20-30% of the annual profit (assuming the business pays for taxes) because you need to buy more inventory (usually 20-30% of revenue) to prevent paying insane debt financing costs. The outcome can be very outsized compared to selling an agency, BUT this business can be a lot more volatile (Meta algo changes, tariffs increasing, etc). The other downside to running a brand is the owner isn’t likely taking cash or a healthy salary for the first few years of building the business, where an agency you can pay yourself month 1 if you wanted to. Getting to this stage either way is a huge accomplishment. Before you choose which route, you have to decide do you want/need more cash up front or do you want to take a bet on a larger outcome. Final thought, if you have what it takes to build a 5/1 agency you can build a 25/3 brand (or vice versa).
