Today is for my father, Pat Finucane. The announcement that there will now be a public inquiry into his murder is very much welcomed by our family. Led by my mother Geraldine, we have campaigned for decades to uncover the truth behind my father’s murder. I want to thank every person who has supported our campaign throughout those years. Today belongs to us all. After 35 years of cover-ups, it is now time for truth.

A welcome and necessary intervention by the Irish Government. The rights of victims of human rights violations must be protected.

I have accepted an invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles lll. We are living in a time of great change. A time to respect our differing and equally legitimate aspirations, and focus on the opportunities the next decade will bring. I am an Irish Republican. I also recognise there are many people on our island for whom the coronation is a hugely important occasion. I am committed to being a First Minister for all, representing the whole community, and advancing peace and reconciliation through respectful and mature engagement. Therefore I will join President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, international figures, other party leaders and the Assembly Speaker for the coronation of King Charles III.

A VERY long shot…but if anyone was on flight BA177 from Heathrow to JFK yesterday (Tues 4 April) at 1.10pm and landing at 3.30pm and found this little fella, there’s a distraught little boy who would love to be reunited with him. Get in touch if you can help. Thanks

I've been informed that our Healthy Happy Minds primary school counselling programme, which made such huge difference to many children with poor mental health, will end on 31 March. It's a massive loss, & of course I've written to the Perm Sec to ask if anything can be done.💔

'The report said a culture resistant to change posed an “ongoing threat” to the organisation’s ability to keep children safe in the present day.'
Literally in tears right now. But the relief knowing that the truth is finally out there is huge #BreakTheSilence irishtimes.com/ireland/socia…

🧵The Mental Health Strategy’s Funding plan set out the need for £9.59million for 2022-23. However only £2.5 million was allocated, leaving a shortfall of >£7million. Over £24 million is needed for 2023-24. Last year’s allocation is a tenth of what is this coming year.

It's an UW report and 3 nests produced 50% of the years owlets so not a stretch for anyone reading it to believe this is great work of UW and the project leader, neither of which played any part of these nests. As you work for UW and you're the partner to x.com/SimonGray14/status/163…

This is a great example of how superficial Twitter is. Nobody claimed credit for anything, this report celebrates the breeding success of barn owls, not anyone in particular. They’ve tried to work with everyone and reached out numerous times. Sure just throw out your own truth!

Afternoon .@BarnOwlsNI @UlsterWildlife @daera_ni @WestonFdn I thought after my tweets last week you might have corrected your Bumper Barn Owl Report or at least have apologised for taking my work and passing it off as your own and not crediting me or the other lads in the report.

The Removal of the European Social Fund in less than 18 working days will have catastrophic implications for thousands of very marginalised people with mental illness & disabilities in NI. It is unconscionable that this funding has not been replaced. #TimeIsRunningOut

Belfast has been named by UNESCO as World City of Music and the EA is kicking the School of Music onto the street with no succession plan. This is reputationally damaging for the city and needs to be urgently addressed by the EA.

Such a worthwhile @MHC_NI conference yesterday, especially the young people from @crisiscafeni confidently recounting their experiences for us all to learn from. Let's hope the work of @profsiobhanon will be made easier urgently so it can be fully implemented! #GenerationHopeNI

I am appalled by the horrific attempted murder of a police officer in Omagh yesterday, in front of his child and other young people. My thoughts are with DCI John Caldwell, his family, the policing community, and all who witnessed this extremely traumatic event.

Have you been told you have a brain chemical imbalance? Low serotonin? Issues with dopamine? Seen it on TV? Read it? Quotes from leading psychiatrists and scientists clearly stating that there is no evidence that ‘mental illness’ is caused by ‘brain chemical imbalances’.

Unpopular opinion, perhaps, but it was a dereliction of responsibility for the Home Secretary to revoke Shamima Begum’s citizenship. She was born and raised in Britain and was a 15-year-old Bethnal Green schoolgirl when she was groomed and lured to Syria. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023…
