I’m proud to share the WHCD will be held on 07/24. Our first dinner is part of history, as will be the WHCA’s response. We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on America 250 and everything we stand for.

Very sad to see this century of reporting and documenting history come to an end. A great legacy of serving the public's interest .
After nearly a century on the air, our colleagues at CBS News Radio will sign off for the final time Friday. @SteveKathanCBS, who has anchored the “CBS World News Roundup” since 2010, reflects on the stories, moments and voices that defined generations of radio news listeners.

Much interest in this canine at work. Two federal law enforcement officials tell me that working dog did not provide an "alert" signal to the handler. That specific canine is trained for explosives detection not ammunition since it's always around armed law enforcement. It's trained to move into open doors/spaces to check air flow for minute particles of explosives. The USSS officer has been interviewed by investigators.

David Jackson was a wonderful guy, dogged reporter and former president of WHCA. Saddened by his unexpected passing. Rest well David.

45 years ago today, a gunman named John Hinkley, wounded Pres. Reagan. The gunfire also injured a Secret Service agent and DC officer, and gravely wounded press secretary James Brady. The modern WH briefing room is named in Brady's honor.

As officials at LGA note the first loss of life there in three decades, I am struck by the sad coincidence that it was March 22, 1992 when I covered the deadly crash of USAir Flight 405 at LGA. Exactly 34 years later it was the Air Canada tragic incident. The same sad day 34 years apart.

The FBI Agents Association statement on the passing of Former FBI Director Robert Mueller: “The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) mourns the passing of Robert Mueller, who served our nation as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2001 to 2013. A lifelong public servant—a decorated Marine, a Vietnam veteran, a Department of Justice prosecutor, and FBI Director in the years following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks—Director Mueller led the Bureau during a period of significant change and played an important role in strengthening its ability to confront evolving national security threats while maintaining its core criminal investigative mission. The FBIAA extends its condolences to Director Mueller’s family and honors his commitment to public service and to the FBI’s mission.”
