As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I released the FY27 Defense Appropriations bill today which provides the resources necessary to ensure the U.S. military remains the strongest fighting force in the world. The bill also includes a well-deserved pay raise for our troops, including a 7% raise for our junior enlisted servicemembers.

This legislation stops states from ignoring repeated fraud and serious violations in child care assistance programs. When states fail to enforce the rules, HHS will be required to withhold funds — protecting taxpayers and making sure child care dollars go to families who need help, not bad actors gaming the system.

The Stop Childcare Funding Fraud Act will restore accountability in the Child Care and Development Block Grant program. The bill will make reforms to ensure any state with an improper payment rate above 6% must immediately submit a corrective action plan to HHS detailing how they will bring their error rate down.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the gas tax is going up thanks to Democrats in Sacramento. The reason gas is more expensive in California than any other state in the country is because of policies put in place by Democrats.

California sends out its annual notice that the state’s gas tax is going up another 2 cents.
The state’s gas tax will be 63.4 cents per gallon of regular starting July 1.
