You didn’t have to vote No to know this much is true: Peter McGauran must go.
This is now not about who won the vote. This is about who should never have been leading it.
He had every weapon:
- $57 million to offer in bribes
- Paid cold callers reading from a script
- An endless stream of texts
- The full machinery of lawyers, consultants and >$1m in resources behind him
And yet he still lost.
He lost because he blindsided members. He lost because he didn’t consult. He lost because you can’t trust vague terms to sell your biggest asset. But worst of all - he’s lost because he does not believe in a future for racing.
McGauran has constantly called the declines “irreversible.” What kind of leader says that? Not one who should have any say in the future.
Like many others, I’ve built my career fighting for this industry - I created Kick Up to do exactly that: to push for progress, transparency, and a long-term future for racing. His comments make a mockery of that work, and of everyone who has given their life to this sport.
It’s time he stepped aside for a leader who believes in racing’s future - one who inspires trust, and who sees possibility for the next generation of Australians in this industry. Just like the young team I’m proud to employ.
Don’t be complacent about the future of Sydney racing. We need your support.
