My great friend Jimmy Adams, the editor of CHESS magazine for many years and author of numerous books on chess history died yesterday at the age of 79. This is him talking about Paul Keres in a podcast for New in Chess. He really knew how to bring the players of the past to life.
My friend Jimmy Adams (1947-6 June 2026) has died. He had been ill for a while. In recent times he had been writing historic chess books . His latest one is out soon and he recently received an advance copy and he was pleased how it looked. A top guy. #chess
I’ve just heard the sad news that FM Jimmy Adams has died after a long illness. A fine chess writer and editor, his scholarship has left a lasting mark on chess literature. RIP.
James Bernard Adams (7 February 1947 – 6 June 2026)

I went to London today to do interviews with several national TV Stations, and the national press and I also visited Number 10. Very posh! I met Larry, the Downing Street cat. THAT was an honour.
'The current battles over online cheating are a grimly undignified, barely intelligible mess with, as their hub, nothing better than X/Twitter.
There must be a better way.'
Fred Yates (1884-1932), six-times British Chess Champion, died on this day. The Yorkshireman beat most of the great masters of his time and was in the world's top 20. He scraped a living as a player and journalist and was killed by a leak from a faulty gas fitting while asleep.
I felt it was time for a new experiment. Introducing CHESSVIBES WEEKLY, a new podcast that covers the latest chess news. Hope you like it! (And hopefully soon on Apple and Spotify as well.) A retweet would be appreciated... Spread the word!
