I often talk about adding alt text to images, but I never actually talk about what makes good alt text, for people who are unsure. So here's my perspective as a sighted person who sometimes uses a screen reader. Tips for writing alt text for images and gifs:

Recently my blog has started doing this thing where it doesn't post at the scheduled time. Tonight, not only did it not post, it won't even let me manually post 😑 My post is stuck in purgatory. I'm going to have to copy it over to a new post and delete this one *sigh*

Ok I managed to manually post it. Have no idea what's causing this problem though and no energy to figure it out.

Is there any covid safe dentist or oral surgeon in the Miami or South Florida area? (staff wearing n95 or equivalent, air filters)

I miss not being in a pandemic.

So (in the US), medical workers don't wear masks, Covid vaccines are no longer readily available to most people, the CDC isn't monitoring 6 of the 8 foodborne pathogens anymore... It's so bad, and it keeps getting worse. This is destroying lives and killing people.

I can't decide if I should keep using this account, or leave this in case I want to use it again for my blog and start a new account for more personal stuff. 1/

I've always just used this for everything, but idk. It's making me feel less safe and more uncomfortable now. I could start over, cultivate who I'm following, etc. But that's also more work, it wouldn't have my old posts I still like, and idk if it's worth it. 2/

So I just keep putting off making a decision and barely using the site. 3/

The worst part for me about the world not caring about covid isn't the isolation, it's that I can't even access life-saving medical care without very likely dying anyway because even medical workers don't wear masks. #ChronicIllness #pwME

Mom when I ask for help: "I have to have a life. My mental health is important." Funny how looking for food I can eat after surgery or going on a shorter, safer vacation will have a horrible affect on her mental health, but her child suffering & dying won't. #ChronicIllness 1/

And I'm on the verge of a medical emergency that will worsen my ME, head nerve, and digestive issues, and cause new pain and problems, plus high potential for covid and/or infection that my body prob won't be able to fight off, not with how things currently are. 4/

Since I became ill 14 years ago, I have just wanted enough help and a safe, accessible place to live so that I could take care of myself and not have my health keep worsening. I wanted the easiest solutions and least trouble for all of us. Idk what to do anymore. 5/

the idea that there is some discrete category of people called "addicts" who deserve to have their pain untreated is part of the problem
I’ve been hearing from people with no history of addiction, who’ve been denied opioid pain management after major surgery or trauma. CPA’s & police, our elderly parents, all being left to suffer, because young residents are being trained to treat regular folks as addicts.

I just saw the sentence, "ChatGPT lied to me," used in a way that seems to be completely serious, and I am so concerned for humanity.

So someone with MECFS died, and her last tweet was about how her mother hung up on her, and now her mother is using her account to argue and say she did everything to help. If I still have any followers here and my parents ever pull that shit, don't let them get away with it.

That tweet sounded exactly like something my own mom would say. It's already what she says.

People have this unrealistic image of disabled people being surrounded by supportive family, doctors that take our conditions seriously, and tons of money from the govt. Y’all are gonna have a rude awakening when you become disabled. Most of us are barely surviving
The fact that the doordash disability debate happens like every 6 mos is exhausting. If you have never been abandoned by loved ones, medical instrastructure, and the govt, then youre not in a position to tell disabled people how to survive. 1/2

Sometimes I wonder if I should come back to this site. Just to have a place to scream about how fucked up the world and the country and the medical system and my life are. Just so I don't fade into nothing with no one even noticing when I'm gone.
