Check out our newest manuscript on #BioRxiv, where we provide an optimized method to visualize lipid droplets in wildtype mouse brain tissue! A special congrats goes to the shared first authors @PhDPetrelli and @Alicia__Rey!
After seeing so many #LipidDroplets in the healthy young brain with our fluorescent LD reporter mouse (rdcu.be/dMdQ9), we wondered why they have not been seen in young brains from wildtype mice.
We can now detect them (almost) as good as in the tdTom-Plin2 mouse with commercially available reagents! And we found an absolutely stunning number of #LipidDroplets in the normal aged mouse brain! Have a look at Figure 6/Suppl. Fig.5/6!

Excited and proud to see the final version of our manuscript out @NatureComms, describing a new lipid droplet reporter mouse, which allows staining-free fluorescent visualization of #LipidDroplets!! Check out how numerous they are in the brain!
4.) We demonstrate that this approach can be combined with subsequent scRNA Sequencing and show that there is a population of microglia that already contain many LDs at 2 month of age.
5.) We also show that LDs in the developing mouse brain are abundant and react dynamically to exogenous lipids, using ex vivo live imaging.
In summary, a great tool to study the role of LDs in the brain, from development, adult to aging! This will keep us busy for years!! 😊
