Kamoa-Kakula's copper anodes recently arrived at @AurubisOlen refinery in Belgium, where they've been refined into >99.99% - pure LME Grade A copper cathodes. ​The anode delivery was Kamoa-Kakula’s inaugural shipment that travelled from the DRC Copperbelt to Europe, via the Lobito Railway Corridor. We believe the creation of this new supply chain produces some of the world's lowest carbon-intensive refined copper, thanks to the renewable energy used in the processing, smelting, and refining of the copper.

In Berlin 🇩🇪 today to discuss European competitiveness with Chancellor @_FriedrichMerz and the other participants in tonight’s debate organized by the @wef. I focused on how it can be strengthened through our investments abroad. The answer lies in the strategic international partnerships we are building with Global Gateway.

We welcome €102 million (approximately KSh 15.3 billion) in new investments under the EU-Kenya Digital Partnership to accelerate digital transformation, expand connectivity and create opportunities for our youth and businesses. We also welcome €37 million in EU support for the Blue Raman submarine cable’s Africa extension connecting Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania, which will strengthen connectivity, lower bandwidth costs and reinforce Kenya’s position as a leading regional digital hub. Held productive talks with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen, on deepening cooperation between Kenya and the European Union in trade, innovation and the digital economy. We reviewed the implementation of the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), under which Kenya’s exports to the European Union have grown by more than 20 per cent since its entry into force, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for our farmers and manufacturers. We also welcomed progress under the EU-Kenya Digital Partnership, particularly on the Digital Dialogue and the Data Adequacy process, which will strengthen digital trade, attract investment and enhance Kenya’s position as a leading digital hub and the world’s 11th-ranked Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) destination. Our partnership with the European Union continues to unlock investment, drive innovation and advance shared prosperity.

Africa is the opportunity of this century, with the resources, talent, and potential to drive global growth. And if Africa is the opportunity, Kenya is the gateway, offering access to Africa’s 1.4 billion people and key global markets. Addressed the Kenya–Belgium Business Forum in Brussels, where we championed a new Africa-Europe partnership founded on sovereign equality, mutual benefit, and shared prosperity. We showcased investment opportunities in agribusiness, logistics, technology, clean energy, and the circular economy, and invited Belgian and Benelux businesses to partner with Kenya in value addition, manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable industrialisation. I also officiated the launch of the Kenya–Benelux Chamber of Commerce, a permanent bridge connecting Kenyan enterprise with the investors, innovators, and markets of Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Africa is the opportunity. Kenya is the gateway. Let us build stronger partnerships that expand trade, create jobs, and unlock shared prosperity for our peoples.

Held fruitful discussions with His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium on strengthening Kenya-Belgium relations and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure and tourism. I thanked Belgium for being the leading destination for Kenyan coffee exports and highlighted the growing opportunities for trade and investment between our two countries. I also briefed His Majesty on the outcomes of the Kenya-Belgium Business Forum and our efforts to create an enabling environment for business and investment. We discussed opportunities to enhance regional connectivity through the extension of the Northern Corridor road and rail network to Kinshasa, strengthening transport links between the Port of Mombasa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We further discussed cooperation in tourism and I invited His Majesty to make a maiden visit to Kenya and experience the world-renowned wildebeest migration.

The European Parliament remains a key partner in fostering stronger relations and cooperation between Kenya, Africa and the European Union. Met with President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and discussed strengthening Kenya-European Union relations for our mutual benefit. We welcomed progress under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the EU-Kenya Digital Partnership, particularly on the Digital Dialogue and Data Adequacy process, which will strengthen digital trade, attract investment and enhance Kenya’s position as a leading digital hub. We also urged support for the conclusion and implementation of the Cross-Border Trade in Services framework to unlock new opportunities for Kenyan and European businesses, leveraging Kenya’s young, highly educated and tech-savvy workforce. Beyond trade and investment, we called for reforms to the global financial architecture to improve access to affordable financing and ensure fairer treatment of developing economies. We further urged support for reforms of global governance institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to ensure a more inclusive, equitable and representative international order.

We value the continued support of the European Council in strengthening cooperation between Europe and the Global South through investment, trade, climate action and sustainable development initiatives. Met European Council President António Costa in Brussels, Belgium. We reviewed the progress of the Kenya-European Partnership Agreement and explored ways of deepening collaboration in trade and investment, and economic growth. We also discussed cooperation on peace and security to promote stability in our region. Further, we explored how the European Council can support Kenya, Africa and the wider Global South in advancing reforms of the global financial architecture to unlock vast potential, including natural resources, renewable energy capacity, arable land, youthful workforce and growing consumer market. Such reforms would deliver shared benefits, particularly as Africa's renewable energy resources can contribute significantly to Europe's and the world's decarbonisation efforts. We also appealed for support in reforming global institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to ensure they reflect current geopolitical realities and serve all nations more fairly.

Belgium 🇧🇪 is one of Team Europe’s most active partners in Global Gateway, involved in 25 projects across three continents. Good to meet today with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister @prevotmaxime. We focused on shared priorities: the Lobito Corridor, the Green Corridor, or investments in critical raw materials.

Today, it was #GlobalGateway🇪🇺 day at #VillaEuropa🇪🇺 in Rome. The Commission‘s Erica Gerretsen @EU_Partnerships briefed the UN Ambassadors of the 27 EU Memberships and of the African Union about the new approach of the EU to international development cooperation and to strategically working together with the private sector. We are currently rolling out Global Gateway projects with our partners across the world, and we will also do this increasingly at the Rome-based UN Organisations @FAO and @IFAD.
