Last week was an inspirational week all the way around! I attended the White House release of #NCA5 and capped the week off with an #NCA5 panel at the @ASCETweets#Inspire conference.
Join Professor Katharine Hayhoe, renowned author and atmospheric scientist, for the final instalment of the 2023 ESB-IIEA REthink Energy series on Tuesday, 5th December at 4pm.

The Bay Area’s mild summer gave us time to catch our breath, but climate action must continue with urgency, writes @KrisLMay, Bay Area climate scientist & lead author for the Fifth National Climate Assessment. @ClimatePathways@usgcrp 6/6🧵 buff.ly/3sK9Ihg
Our future extreme precipitation study with @MichaelFWehner and @BerkeleyLab has been released! No City is ready for the future that climate change is bringing. #climate
@bayareaclipper Your customer service rep hung up on me, and I need help. I have 4 clipper cards that I would like to consolidate to one card. For some reason that costs $5 per card to simply transfer a balance.
But why $5 to simply transfer a balance? Or in my case $15 since I have 4 cards. That’s insane. It’s more work for clipper card staff to send a replacement card AND transfer the balance to the new card, but that costs $3.
I spent the past week with the greatest Climate minds in the country. I’m energized and optimistic, but I oscillate between geeking out on how much more intense and frequent future storms will be, and acute fear of what is coming. #ClimateCrisistheguardian.com/environment/…
Tune in today at 9 am PT and listen to @KrisLMay, @ezraromero, and @sfbcdc discuss how the Bay Area is getting ready for climate change and the challenges we face as sea levels and the groundwater table rise.

Her neighbors used to joke ruefully about being in a flood zone.
“Now I think the conversations are starting to take a more serious turn,” she said. “It’s not something
people are chuckling about any more.”

After all of the atmospheric rivers in the Bay Area, the shallow groundwater table is likely at an all time high. This really is a big component of adaptation we need to take into account!
New Study Finds Rising Groundwater is a Major Bay Area Flooding Risk
“It has really big implications. It's going to change everything related to how we design buildings, freeways & sewer infrastructure.” @KrisLMay@ClimatePathways

Watch renowned climate scientist @MichaelFWehner talk about the Bay Area’s current AR/ETC storm, and the work we did with Michael that sadly is correct. These storms are already larger due to climate change. And it will get worse. #AtmosphericRiver
Riding out the #AtmosphericRiver currently pummeling the #BayArea and wondering what Mother Nature has in store for us afterwards? We chatted with Berkeley Lab Senior Scientist @MichaelFWehner to get his insights on the storm, the science, and what's coming. #climate
We always wish our climate projections were not correct. But the latest storm to hit the Bay Area showed the climate change is hard at work making AR/ETC’s more intense.
