Largely agree, but wanted to drop in some opinions of my own.
You say they "took Destiny money" to make Marathon, but that's not quite right. They took Sony's money. Sony had to greenlight this and allocate the funding. Destiny might have given Sony a bunch of money, but in the end, it's Sony's money, not Bungie's, to spread as they need. This is an important distinction, because it shuffles that from Bungie/Destiny to Sony.
"Realistically the games been dead for a lot of people after the conclusion of the Light and Dark saga." 100%. You can see the numbers drop pretty clearly after that point, and it's the general sentiment of a lot of people who have either moved on to Marathon, or are off to play something else entirely (Warframe, the Division, etc)
To outsiders, this infighting seems crazy. It's pathetic, and it's sad. Hell, even to a lot of people inside the community, it's pathetic and sad. We all want to be heard, we all want Destiny 3, but there's nothing wrong with packing it up and moving on too. I like both Destiny and Marathon. I've had someone random queue with me and ask the team what they thought, and when I said "Marathon's pretty good, actually. Has a lot of issues, but it's a good game overall" he went completely psychotic and screaming about how we're traitors for playing Marathon and we're killing Destiny... Do these people not see how crazy they sound when they do things like this? Of course not. They're either behaving on emotion, or they're just taking action because their favorite grifter told them "Marathon bad, it's at fault for Destiny's death" when that's just not the full truth.
Your take is a valid, salient take. Wrong fight, wrong people. I said it after the Final Shape wrapped up in a Deep Stone Lullaby video that we shouldn't cry because it's over, we should smile because it happened. We made a lot of friends along the way. All things have an end, but your memories live on as long as you can remember them.
Y’all really going to love me for this one…
In my opinion, what needs to happen is that the everyone needs to stfu.
You guys have very few things to logically hate about Marathon. Yes it was a small (in the grand scheme) part of what burned down our home. Yes they took Destiny money to make Marathon, yes they took Destiny devs to help make Marathon, and so on and so on, I get it.
Realistically the games been dead for a lot of people after the conclusion of the Light and Dark saga. After all it was the end of our current story that has spanned across 13 years now. That’s where the game should’ve ended and the incubation period for D3 should’ve started. However, due to poor executive decisions, car collections, and the rich getting richer, the game has been doomed for a while.
While I understand that a lot of people, myself included, called this place their home. After a while it gets stale, it’s the reason you move your rooms around or your setup around because you feel like it’s boring and needs something new. That’s the case with Destiny.
In the near future, people will move on from this game to other games or move on from gaming entirely. Although be it sad, it’s the truth. A lot of us started this journey either as kids that are now young adults, or young adults that are starting to settle down.
To rip and tear each other apart over something we all have little to no control over is truly astonishing. I wish I could see this all, without any knowledge of Bungies or its communities, to truly see how pathetic all this arguing and fighting has been.
Yes I want us to be heard, I want Destiny 3 to happen, but logically there’s a point where we need to move on. To new stories, new adventures, new friends, new games, or new hobbies.
Stop waging war on each other because you let fucking numbers on a screen dictate what you think is a good game or not. Objectively, Marathon is a good game. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, with it being an extraction shooter game, but that’s fine. I’m not gonna force you to play it, nor will I try to force my opinions upon you.
But factually, we need to ALL start getting along, or nether of the communities win. Then all of this just becomes a fleeting memory of the good ol’ days.
Look, I know a lot of people aren’t going to read this all the way through. Some are going to comment a “We want Destiny 3” meme and be on with their day, some will have reactions based off emotion, others will agree/disagree, but I appreciate those that take the time to look at this as a whole.
