Routinely firing beloved coworkers is a weird way to practice “mutual respect”
NEW: Bari Weiss just addressed the termination of Scott Pelley on the network's morning call just now. Weiss: "I know I speak for myself, and I hope I speak for everyone here when I say that I'm only interested in working in a newsroom that is built on trust and mutual respect. We cannot do our work without it. That foundation was broken on Monday, and despite our attempts to engage with Scott Pelley and to find a way back, unfortunately we weren't able to do so, and so we had to part ways. We did not want that to happen, but that's the path that he chose. That unfortunate outcome does not discount from the amazing contributions and work that Scott Pelley has done for CBS and for 60 Minutes over the course of his career." She then listed some of his stories from the past season and called them "unforgettable stories."

I’m assuming he reiterated how hard Pelley dunked on him so as to have written proof of the exchange for any potential litigation in the future, but why did Bilton strike such a whiny tone here lmao
#BREAK: CBS NEWS has terminated Scott Pelley's contract.

“I don’t care how hard you throw ball four” is a bar. That said, I don’t think the O’s focus on analytics is the problem. The Rays are in first and they’re the biggest stat nerds in the leagues! The O’s problem is that many of their players are not very good.
MASN analyst Ben McDonald on the postgame show: "You either do or you don't. And right now, the Orioles don't. They are not doing it and they're not playing well right now. That's the bottom line."

Caring about exit velos and launch angles is not costing them games. But having the worst ERA in the AL sure is!

You have to wonder if the Orioles should fire Brandon Hyde
The Orioles (21-29) are a season-worst 8 games below .500. They went 1-5 on road swing vs. Nationals and Rays. They are 0-7 in AL East road games. Thursday off-day before the start of a 10-game homestand on Friday with Tigers, Rays, Blue Jays coming to town.

This O’s season has been so frustrating but this was legit heartbreaking to listen to
Trevor Rogers spoke to the media after a tough start against the Rays.

I guess Trevor Rogers stinks again?
Yandy Díaz's two-out single scores a pair of Rays runners and puts Tampa Bay ahead of the Orioles, 3-0

Time to test the “Anthony Nunez as a starter” plan

Only two grand slams and the O’s are right back in it!
This has fallen out of reach for the Orioles. Junior Caminero hits a three-run homer. The Rays lead 12-4

This is why all of Ward’s walks, while impressive, don’t really matter that much. He’s not knocking in runs!
The Orioles loaded the bases on a walk and two infield blunders by the Yankees. Here's what followed: Taylor Ward flyout Adley Rutschman double play Orioles still trail 6-0.

Is Coby Mayo a great defender? No, of course not. But is he providing right-handed power that the O’s desperately need? Also no.

Hey @CalRipkenJr @DM_Rubenstein is this what the fans can expect from the Orioles under your ownership? Should we be excited that we can watch position players pitching from the Truist Club? This is pathetic.
The Orioles are on pace to suffer their fifth straight loss by five or more runs, which is the longest streak in franchise history

The 2026 Orioles are a machine that turns winnable games into blowouts
It's a night of what-ifs for the Orioles. Another one here: Shane Baz appeared to strand two runners in the sixth to maintain a two-run deficit when Jasson Domínguez was called out at the plate. A review overturned the out call and Ryan McMahon adds an RBI single. 5-1 Yankees

So the PRP route didn’t work — shocker! — and now if he does get surgery, it’s questionable that he’d even be ready for Spring Training next year. Awesome news.
More bad Orioles injury news: Jordan Westburg is being shut down from throwing and is being reevaluated, manager Craig Albernaz said. Westburg was feeling discomfort in his elbow as he progressed through his throwing program.

Maybe @DM_Rubenstein can do another bobblehead night with his likeness to really get the fans on their feet
Orioles through 34 games: 2025: 13-21 record, -63 run differential 2026: 15-19 record, -30 run differential The next week or two will tell us a lot about this baseball team.
64
One easy defensive improvement they can make is keeping Coby Mayo and Weston Wilson on the bench
Can significant defensive improvement actually occur during the season? Craig Albernaz: “I think so. … It’s us putting the confidence in them and still putting the work in. I’m bullish on it, but I think we can make some real improvements”

It’s April 19 and the O’s have already reached the “take a long look in the mirror” stage of the season. Awesome!
Taylor Ward on Orioles’ tough series in Cleveland: “We all need to, I guess, look in the mirror and really examine what we did out there … and just try to make adjustments. This is a great ballclub, and we’ve just got to find it from within right now and get back up on horse.”
