Read our blog reaction to yesterday's #Budget.
For us, it was a missed opportunity to invest in the real #FiguresThatMatter: everyone who needs care support, the extensive #SocialCare workforce, and millions providing unpaid care.

Today’s #KeepBritainWorking review shows what disabled people have long known: too many are still locked out of work.
The government must act – continue to invest in inclusive employment support, including Access to Work, support employers and protect extra-cost benefits.

Tomorrow: A new approach to health and work
Sir Charlie Mayfield's Keep Britain Working Review will be published tomorrow - informed by thousands who shared their stories to help shape real solutions for staying in and returning to work

In 2024/25, adult social care contributed around £77.8bn to the economy.
@SkillsforCare’s analysis shows investing in social care not only supports disabled adults to live their lives fully - it also drives national growth.

Care workers are the backbone of our communities - yet still undervalued. The Fair Pay Agreement consultation is welcome, but £500m from 2028 is only a start. Overstretched providers & councils can’t absorb more costs.

Unpaid carers are the backbone of the NHS, yet a majority say they urgently need more support from the healthcare system.
Our new report details how the #NHS10YearPlan is a critical opportunity to transform carers' experiences - one that cannot be missed

This new @resfoundation report shows poverty and disability are inextricably linked.
One-in-ten (1.1 million) low-to-middle income families in Britain today include both a disabled member and an unpaid carer.

🚨New report 🚨
Over a million lower income families today include both a disabled person and an unpaid carer.
There is significant overlap between these - and these households suffer a £3,300 income penalty as a result.

ALT quote:
Hannah Slaughter, Senior Economist at the Resolution Foundation, said:
“More people across the poorer half of Britain report having a disability, which has driven a rise in unpaid care. There are now over a million working age families in Britian that include both a disabled person and an unpaid carer – and they are paying a heavy financial price for these circumstances.
“More must be done to boost the living standards of disabled people and their carers. Employers should improve their retention of disabled staff and carers, and the Government should raise the value of unpaid care in the benefits system and extend carers’ leave.
“The trend of rising levels of disability across Britain, and the need for unpaid care, isn’t going to end. It’s time policy caught with this reality.”
We join 86 disability, health and poverty charities urging MPs to support their disabled constituents and vote against the #WelfareBill today.
The government must take time to work with MPs, #Disabled people and their orgs to get welfare reform right.

The extra cost of being disabled in UK will rise by almost 12% in five years, says @scope. That means finding another £15k a year just to live at the same standard as non-disabled people.
But MPs should cut PIP tomorrow, right? Seems logical and humane? theguardian.com/politics/202…
🗣️"These cuts won't save any money. The costs don't go if you cut benefits they get pushed around the system."
Our campaigner Mikey on @BBCPoliticsLDN making clear that the cuts will achieve nothing but pain for Disabled people.
MPs must vote against them tomorrow.

🙋@Keir_Starmer we, and all the MPs and orgs backing the amendment, care about a future #Welfare system.
And we know the answer to this one!
◾️Formally consult on the changes
◾️Co-produce with #Disabled people
◾️Delay the Bill until OBR analysis
◾️Embed employment support first

Starmer has responded to the welfare bill amendment with the following:
"So those that care about a future welfare system have to answer the question - how do you reform what you've got to make sure it's sustainable for the future?"

Ahead of a crucial vote on cuts to disability benefits, our new evidence casts doubt on whether jobs are even available for disabled people facing cuts 📢
The analysis found that the parts of the country among the hardest hit by the cuts have fewer job opportunities 1/3
ALT "Cutting disabled people's benefits won't magically create suitable jobs, particularly in those parts of the country that have long had weaker jobs markets. It's little wonder so many disable people are fearful of the impact of the government's cuts" - Abby Jitendra, Principal Policy Adviser
Update: 108 Labour MPs, led by six committee chairs (though others have signed), have already backed a reasoned amendment which could kill the government’s welfare bill 👀

Meet the rebel Labour MPs voting against benefit cuts:
🗣️'I don't want to be part of it'
🗣️'I’m ashamed at these proposals'
🗣️"I’m not prepared to back those changes if it means making three million people poorer than they are today.”
