In a unanimous vote, France’s National Assembly has formally apologised for homophobic laws that criminalised gay people. 👏 Crucially, they also voted to compensate those targeted by this state sanctioned homophobia. We must now see similar progress with 🇮🇪 @LGBTDisregard
#DirectAN

At at time when few thought we could win the marriage referendum Charlie Bird lent his considerable reputation & skill to @YesEquality2015 He went around the country encouraging many #LGBTI people to speak for the first time & many more to listen. He was our fairy dust in #marref

Low form of racism here. Disrespectful to both the victims, to Muslims in general and completely lacking in nuance or substance. Racism disguised as something is still racism.
For all those celebrating Ramadan, Please remember you are in Ireland, your festival will be respected, However, let us please remember Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee who were brutally murdered, beheaded, and disembowelled on the 10th and 11th day of Ramadan, In April 2022 by Yousef Palani after returning from a "holiday" the Middle East. May they both rest in peace. 😰 I would implore members of the Irish Muslim community to inform the Irish authorities if they are aware of persons who intend to commit acts of violence or terror during Ramadan.

Thanks @Costellop for asking the question of the minister and sharing the reply. We welcome the aspiration of @HMcEntee to publish a Heads of Bill in 2024. But we need the Bill in time to pass before a GE is due. These men have waited over 30ys, don’t delay justice to them now.

Tasmania’s politicians agree it was wrong to criminalise homosexuality and cross-dressing. It’s time for them to support financial redress for those LGBTIQA people whose lives were ruined by being charged and convicted under those old laws: examiner.com.au

This account maybe only be one year d, but the work to get a scheme to address the historic convictions of men under the laws which criminalised them in Ireland has been going on now since the end of 2016. We are going into our 8th year now.

Today we had the chance to talk to members of the Oireachtas and their representatives about the importance of moving the disregard legislation forward at an event in the AV Room in Leinster House. Thanks to @Costellop and @geraldnash for organising it. @kieranarose @Khayden2412

An important documentary about the murder of Charles Self and the subsequent Garda investigation which had a negative impact on the wider gay community. Also includes piece with @Khayden2412 on the disregard process we have been working on for a number of years.

Thank you to Senator @fintanwarfield for raising the issue of the delayed legislation to disregard convictions under the laws which criminalised same sex intimacy. Thank you also to the Taoiseach @LeoVaradkar for remembering the Gov commitment and saying he would get a timeline.

Government must publish timetable for Disregard legislation on gay convictions. Eight years on since the start of the process of apology and exoneration, those living for decades under the cloud of criminal convictions are kept waiting for justice. Our full statement 👇
