June is National PTSD Awareness Month. For firefighters and first responders, not all injuries are visible. PTSD is real, and seeking help is a sign of strength. Check in on your crew. Check in on yourself.

Fires crews responded to a report of smoke on the fourth floor in the 1200 block of Richmond Street. Fire crews have determined that it was a belt issue on a laundry machine. Crews are ventilating and everyone should be allowed back in their apartments soon. #ldnont ^cs

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of the tragic loss of the Afzaal family, who were killed in a horrific act of Islamophobic hatred. As we remember their lives, we are reminded that hate has no place in our community. Together, we stand for inclusion and respect for all.

Crews are on scene to a working townhome complex in the city’s north end. Heavy fire was showing on multiple units on arrival at this townhouse complex, firefighters acted quickly to knock down the fire and successfully limit the extension to the adjacent units. Excellent work by crews to protect neighbouring units and bring the incident under control. No injuries reported at this time. Fire prevention has been requested to assist and determine the cause in origin of the fire. Preliminary estimates indicate total damage to the affected units may exceed 1 million. Today’s townhouse Fire serves as an important reminder of the critical role working smoke detectors play in protecting lives. Early warning. smoke detectors provides valuable time to escape. This is especially important in multi Unit Dwellings were fire and smoke can quickly affect neighbouring units.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As firefighters, we’re trained to be there when others need help. Don’t forget that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it too. Check in on your crew. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. A conversation can change a life.
