Australia and Turkey will face off tonight in Vancouver’s first FIFA World Cup match at B.C. Place. With game-day road closures in effect around BC Place and large crowds expected downtown, we encourage fans and visitors to take transit whenever possible. Fan marches will also be taking place downtown this evening, with the first beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the last around 6 p.m. These events are expected to draw thousands of supporters and may cause additional congestion in the downtown core. Please plan ahead and allow extra travel time. #FIFAWorldCup2026Vancouver

Just another day policing in the DTES- officers recovered and returned a stolen cell phone and an e-bike to grateful owners. They responded to a call of a man armed with a machete and determined he had three arrest warrants and then arrested another male in possession of a push dagger who had a B.C.-wide warrant for BNE. Both were on probation and breaching multiple release conditions. Officers also made a drug trafficking arrest and seized multiple weapons. #VPD

VPD officers responded to over 650 calls yesterday. In addition to the home invasion in the 3600 block of Commercial Street, Patrol members attended two sensitive sudden deaths, three sexual assaults, a harassment incident, a lost child report, and another violent assault within a residence. A chronic property crime offender was arrested for breaching his house arrest conditions, and a high-risk missing person was promptly located. The dedication and hard work of these officers continues to make a meaningful difference in maintaining public safety.

#FIFAWorldCup2026Vancouver: If you’re planning to fly a drone in Vancouver during the FIFA World Cup 2026, you can expect airspace restrictions around stadiums, fan zones, and event sites. Drones of any size will not be permitted within designated no-fly zones around these venues, such as B.C. Place, the PNE, Killarney Park, and UBC. Penalties can include significant fines, the seizure of your drone, and criminal charges. Learn more about drone regulations and safety: VPD.ca/drones

Proud of the excellent work by our VicPD officers in this targeted enforcement investigation. 👇🏼 The seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine, a loaded firearm and other items reflects our ongoing commitment to addressing the harms caused by organized drug trafficking and the violence that so often accompanies it. #proudchief #wearevicpd @vicpdcanada
The Victoria Police Department has seized, an estimated street value, up to $150-thousand in fentanyl and methamphetamine, plus a loaded firearm and other items, as part of an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. Read more: engagement.vicpd.ca/vicpd-in… @ChiefVicPD

Good meeting today with Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree. We spoke about the urgent public safety challenges facing Vancouver, especially in the Downtown Eastside. There is a need for all levels of government to work together on real solutions. From repeat violent offenders and street disorder to the pressures facing frontline responders and local businesses, cities cannot tackle these issues alone. Vancouver is stepping up with investments in policing, community safety, and coordinated enforcement, but lasting progress requires strong partnerships between municipal, provincial, and federal governments. Appreciate the Minister’s willingness to collaborate and focus on practical action with forward thinking that makes our communities safer for everyone.

It’s a challenging job where every ~4 days an officer is assaulted, for doing their job. TY @BradWestPoCo for your support, police everywhere appreciate it. #ProudPocoResident🙏 Have a read 🙏
“For too long, policing has been treated by some as an easy target. There is a kind of fashionable cynicism that reduces police officers to a stereotype and policing itself to a problem. It is loud online, popular in certain circles, and sometimes indulged by people in positions of authority who should know better. It has manifested itself into calls to “Defund the Police”. But most people know the truth. When something goes wrong, they don’t call a slogan. They call 911. They call the police.” Thank you to @sitkamedia for publishing my commentary on supporting the men & women who step forward to stand where others will not.

Please be aware of this scam. No police officer will ever recommend that you send money or bitcoin to someone you do not know. Just hang up and call your bank for assistance or the VPD non-emergency line to make a report.
#VPDNews: Vancouver Police are warning the public to be cautious of an ongoing scam involving fake bank employees and fake police officers working together. In these cases, a victim gets a call from someone claiming to be from their bank, saying there’s suspicious activity on their account. The caller asks for the victim’s help with an “investigation,” sometimes mentioning a bank employee. While still on the call, the victim receives a second call that appears to come from the Vancouver Police Department. The victim switches over, and the caller claims to be a police officer investigating the same issue. The “officer” tells the victim to keep cooperating with the bank and says they’ll follow up later. The victim then goes back to the “bank” caller, who says money has been deposited into their account. They instruct the victim to go to a bitcoin ATM, buy bitcoin for that same amount, and send it to them. Days later, they contact police for a follow up and realize they have been scammed. In total, victims have lost approximately $10,000. “We want to remind people that no police officer will never recommend you send money or bitcoin to someone you don’t know,” says Constable Megan Lui. “A bank will not ask you to help them with an investigation, and they will never ask you to send bitcoin. If you receive a call like this, please hang up and contact your bank directly.” If you believe you have been victim to this scam, or you know someone who has, please call the VPD non-emergency line at 604-717-3321 to make a report.
